Default Continental Extreme Contact DW 225/45/17

I put these on my 17x8 RPF1s about 4 months ago so they have about 7000 miles on them now. These are the DW, not the DWS so are strictly a summer tire.

They got good reviews at Tire Rack for longevity and ride quality and decent reviews for grip and steering response. They are also one of the lighter tires out there in this size and are supposedly a low rolling resistance tire.

Sound levels: On smooth pavement they are indeed very quiet. We have a lot of freeway pavement that's worn down to the aggregate so has a rough, "pebbled" surface and on that they're quite a bit noisier but no worse than the tires I had on the car before.

Ride: They do give a nice ride. Small pavement seams and roughness don't get transferred to the cabin very much at all.

Grip: As much as I can use on the street. I don't race or autocross so can't comment on their performance there but obviously wouldn't be as good as something with a softer tread compound. They do fine in the rain too, but I never push my car when the roads are wet.

Steering Response & overall feel: Not that great. The sidewalls seem soft, and steering response suffers as a result. Soft sidewalls are probably why they ride so well but I prefer a tire with a more responsive feel to it.

One thing they do not do that my last tires did is tramline - they seem relatively unaffected by grooves and no problems at all with ruts which we have a lot of on the freeways around here.

Previous tires were Dunlop Sportmax TTs 245/40. They were very responsive but also very "twitchy" and would take any excuse to not go in a straight line. They would try to climb out of even shallow ruts, making the car a handful on those stretches of freeway. The Continentals are the exact opposite in this regard.

One other thought about these Continentals - I don't know how durable they are. I got a hole in one after driving on a logging road right after I put them in the car. I haven't had a flat tire in years and I was driving carefully as I usually do on rough, rocky roads. May have just been a fluke, but it makes me nervous to think these might get punctured more easily than other similar tires.

i have the 17" extreme contact DWS. No complaint about the ride or grip but I did have to replace one that exploded on the highway for no reason after only about 7k.
