Default your opinion about electric cars

Hello guys

I have a quick question.

Do Americans like electric car? How much percentage of your friends want to buy electric car?

I know America is leading country for electric car and its infra structure for electric car charging station especially in California. But I haven't been to America. So I'm really curious about it.

Actually I'm a korean student who majoring mechanical engineering. I used to live in New Zealand. Both countries are quiet small and infra structure for electric car is in developing stage. Especially most New Zealand guys seem to prefer car which has internal combustion engine making good exhaust sound and I do too.

Could you please reply with your region?

Default your opinion about electric cars

I like the idea of electric cars, tesla's specifically. They're not too common in my city because there's not many charge stations but in a few years I may consider one.
Unfortunately there seems to be a "holier than thou" mentality among lots of these owners. Also they're not as environmentally friendly as most people are led to believe.
If you're charging the car from a coal powered grid then you're technically not zero emissions.
Not to mention how often the batteries need to be replaced, energy used to create these batteries and how many will sit in landfills.

Default Maybe hybrid

I'm not on the all-electric bandwagon yet, and likely won't be for quite a while.

I live where we have no electrical power more often than I'm comfortable with. I have a generator but don't think that would be enough to charge a car.

A hybrid gasoline/electric might be ok, especially if the combination was performance-oriented vs pure economy.

They are good for urban areas, but batteries still have a LONG way to go.

I would hate to deal with "charging anxiety" which is the fear of running out of a charge and not having a charge station nearby or not having time to wait around for a full charge. It would also be a bummer to have a car you can’t drive to Vegas (or similar) on a moment’s notice.
I would prefer a one of those ultra-light sporty Kei gas cars that get like 50 miles a gallon, but with huge diesel trucks on our roads and difficult safety laws they simply can’t get them legalized here. I’m all for saving the environment though and will continue to make adjustments.
