Default Bike rack for my 2012 hatchback?

Hey guys. Before I got my Subaru I had a pick up, and maybe once a month or so my SO and I would load up some beach cruiser bikes and go for a bike ride. We aren't serious or professionals, and just go for joyrides every once in a while so I don't want to put a hitch on my car. Our bikes are also pretty heavy so I don't want to roof mount them either. Is there a rack I could put on the back that wouldn't break the bank but would also not be too hard on my hatch? Thanks in advance!

I'd strongly recommend just folding the back seats down and putting the bikes in the car, with a blanket or sheet in between them. I've gotten a pair of adult-sized bicycles in mine plenty of times.

Trunk racks really are the worst option out there. They're always a hassle to set up and adjust properly, they're not all that secure, and it's not unusual for them (or the bike swinging around a few inches from the back of your car) to scratch up your paint. The only trunk rack I'm aware of that I'd consider using on my car is called the Saris Bones, but they're not cheap.

I would suggest using blankets/trunk mat and maybe keep some tie downs/bungee cords and hook them to strap them down in the back. personally, i got the hidden hitch with a bike rack.
