Default If you have an older dyson dustbuster

Cut this notch in the crevice tool:

The purpose of this increases the amount of air it can retrieve? I've never seen a crevice tool like that.

it probably does protect the motor, but mostly it sucks way better. When it ends up pressed against fabric (like couch cushions), instead of the motor going nuts and the suck power dropping to almost zero, both stay where they're supposed to be. It's a clever little design element that dyson came up with on newer models, but it's not exactly a difficult retrofit.
