Default Custom Exhaust Heat Shield

The exhaust on the SVX has two cats in the primary pipes that basically sit in the transmission tunnel. The heat off of these tends to make the footwell area fairly toasty after a bit of driving, so I'd like to build some heat shields to cut down on the radiant heat transfer.

The problem spot (There's now a 6-speed where that auto used to be):

My concept:

Is there an ideal stand-off distance between the shield and the exhaust? I had it set at 3/8 when I drew that up. Also, I originally picked stainless as the best material for this, but what about aluminium? This isn't a tuned turbo car so the temps never get that extreme. I'd also add some heat reflective tape to the inside of the shield.

And for anyone who might ask why not just use wrap, I just like fabricating things. This is more fun.

nice looking design! im not an expert but from what i have read on heat tape an inch of air space is best. i have also read that the cats should never be wrapped, even though yours isnt turbo the cats still get hot and you never want to over heat a cat.
imo: factory heatshields have less then 3/8 of space between so i think you will be fine

I would put at least 1/2" of space between the cat and the shield. If you are closer than that stainless steel would be best, at 1/2" you should be able to use 0.020" aluminum without any problems. Closer and I'd worry about the heat affecting the strength enough to crack the mounts on the heat shield.

That CAD work does look nice.
