Default Venom GT sets 435kph world speed record

The Hennessey Venom GT has become the world’s fastest two-seat car after clocking an eye-watering speed of 434kph.

The Lotus-based hypercar set the record on the shuttle landing strip of the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida over a distance of 3.9km.

The Venom GT also set the record for fastest car to reach 300kph, hitting it in just 13.63 seconds - roughly the same time it takes a 1.2litre Ford Fiesta to reach 97kph.

After setting the record, Don Goldman, Hennessey CEO, said: "I knew the car had it in it, but it's a thrill to officially validate the Venom GT's 270mph speed.

"Venturing anywhere above 200mph, let alone 270mph, is not to be taken lightly, and we're elated to have accomplished our goal."

The Venom GT is manufactured by US firm Hennessey Performance Engineering using a highly modified Lotus Exige chassis.

I guess all I have to say is 1) Good to see NASA getting some use out of their airstrip and 2) That's pretty damn fast.

Not recognized as a world record due to the lack of going that fast in both directions.
