Default 2003 WRX Stereo ideas. Need suggestions.

I bought my 2003 WRX a few weeks ago from a guy who was nuts about car audio. He's had the car for ten years and he installed great speakers and a nice amp and sub and it really really sounds good. My issue is that he was an iPhone guy and I'm a droid guy. He installed a Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD and it's a pretty cool head unit but it won't recognize my Samsung Infuse. I don't want to switch to iPhone for personal reasons and I want my car and phone to completely inter-operate. I saw on here where a guy installed a tablet as a head unit and I thought that was pretty cool. Any suggestions as to whether or not I should keep the Pioneer, upgrade, do the tablet switch?

They don't have many head units that interface with droids or android phones because everything is compatible to the iPhone its just the way it is, now to answer your question wether to switch or not, clarion, boss audio and some other off brand name head units mostly all in dash or double dins are cheap an will last for what u pay for them. The clarion double din is not cheap by all means but if u want interface with your phone then the price won't be cheap. Almost forgot the cheaper way is I believe best buy, Fry's have a Bluetooth integration for around 100 bucks.

Pioneer's AppRadio 2 supports some android phones. Not sure about yours though, but it might work despite not being listed. Often these companies will only list phones they themselves have tested, but others may be just as capable.

You could possibly buy the new AppRadio, install it and then sell the deck you have now on Ebay to recover some of the costs.

It depends on what you actually want to do. If all you need is the ability to stream music from the phone, any Bluetooth-capable HU with A2DP will do the job. If you want some app functionality then you have to be more selective when choosing a unit, but there are some that support certain Android apps. I recently installed a Kenwood BT-952HD and it has built-in Pandora support for Android, although I use TuneIn so I'm not currently taking advantage of it.
