Default New engine, increase value?

I'm having a remanufactured engine put into my 2008 Impreza. The reman engine has 42k miles on it, the one it was replacing had 94k. My local Subaru dealership is doing the work.

1) Is it reasonable to assume that the car is now worth approx. what a 2008 Impreza with its original engine in is worth?

2) What kind of documentation should I ask for? Who should I share this documentation with?

3) What kind of warranty should I be expecting for the reman engine?

1.) Not really, because the rest of the car has 94K on it.
2.) I would ask for paperwork showing that they are the ones that installed and did the labor on the motor swap
3.) Couldn't answer that.

I honestly decrease value on cars that I see that have another engine put in it, because you as the buyer never really know if the work was done right and mileage on the body/engine is always different. Just my $0.02

Unfortunately no, the value of your car will not appreciate in market value. You might be able to find a buyer that is willing pay more thinking there is added value, but that falls under the "sucker born every minute" adage.

To clarify: if the engine has 42k on it you are buying a used engine that was rebuilt 42,000 miles ago. A reman engine would be one that was rebuilt and had no mileage before it was sold to you. Any warranty would be provided by the installing shop or thier vendor and should have been the first question you asked when a used engine was offered to you as an option.

When we sell used engines to customers our vendor offers 3 different price points depending on the length of the warranty you want. The quality/mileage on the engine plays a factor in this also. Generally the longer warranty - the lower the mileage - the higher the cost.
