![]() Here is some info and details of my install of a Rydeen MINy camera using SVXdc's 16 pin harness with the stock 6 volt wire out of the Fujitsu FW602US nav unit in my '12 WRX hatch.
I confirmed with tech support at Rydeen that the camera has an operating range from 3.5 to 15 volts. I suspect other cameras both from Rydeen or other MFGs will work the same way, but I recommend checking with their tech support first. The nice thing about this setup is, the camera doesn't need to be constant powered and there is no splicing into other wires necessary. It also seems that the head unit turns the camera on correctly at boot up. The MINy has switchable guide lines. The camera I got is the MINy, 1st one, top left of the page http://www.rydeenmobile.com/Backup%2...upCameras.html I ordered from one of their authorized distributors for warranty etc., they were within $1US of the cheapest shipped price on eBay when I checked. The harness and plug came from here. http://ae64.com/Rear-camera-16-pin.htm Make sure you tell Dave, you want the stock power out option if you are going to try this. I was working alone and so I didn't document the cable routing, particularly because it is done many times elsewhere in this forum. I can tell you a few things and I do have a couple of pictures of things I did differently. I needed to extend the camera power lead so it was long enough to run to the head unit, since I'm powering off the factory 6 volt out using SVXdc's harness with the extra factory power pin out. I made all of my connections with solder and shrink wrap. NOTE: I have not tested this but apparently it's not necessary to extend the power cable to the back of the HU, there's a little pigtail that says something like "backing power supply anode output" that comes out of the side of the video RCA which can be used to power the camera. Please test before you attempt to use this for power. I chose not to drill any holes so I popped off the hatch panels, removed the Driver side license plate light housing and ran the cable through there. ![]() Here's what it looks like put together. It's held on with earthquake putty until I can get someone over to help me aim it and then attach it. ![]() ![]() I ran the wires along the Driver's side of the car. I used this tool made out of a piece of wire hanger ![]() to get the wires through here ![]() Note camera ground location I pulled off this entire panel ![]() ![]() once it was off I was able to route the cable through here following the existing run, after that I just pulled the sill panels off and tucked it in there. To get past the B pillar I used an electrician's fish tape and then gently coaxed it through. I ran the cables up through the rocker panel and tie wrapped to cables under the dash. then found a path through to the back to the radio. With the radio pulled out I soldered SVXdc's power wire to the extended camera's power wire. Plugged in the new connector and then tested. Go into reverse, camera goes on, go out of reverse, camera goes off and the radio, nav etc. works like normal.

![]() Here's the final mounting location. Is it necessary to blank out the plate#?
![]() This is what it looks like on screen ![]() ![]() Anyone know how to adjust the lines and the red "+" ? |

![]() I think one set of the lines are inserted by the camera and the other by the head unit.

![]() You lost your aux and usb in arm rest? Its pretty common for aftermarket HU's on these cars.
ETA: i wish there was a more stealthy approach to these. ![]() |

There is two different menus , first when you press audio button first then press voice & map together, second menu press map button first then audio & voice together. Once you in that menu you suppose to adjust the lines with + , on my car I cant, don't know why yet. this is what you should see, you can't remove the line from subaru navigation ![]() Last edited by Molas; 01-28-2013 at 10:20 AM. |

![]() I'm guessing that my solder joint broke on the green wires when I pulled them through that rubber boot. I'm also guessing that the connector I unplugged to attach SVXdc's contained the pins for the USB & AUX, crap guess I'll be rearranging some things.

![]() nice info zra! I have an off topic question for you. Did you get your car with the HU or did you purchase the HU after and install it? I have a 2013 WRX Hatch Premium w/ standard HU and just purchased the same Fujitsu Ten Nav HU for it. I was wondering if it's plug and play or will have to to make/purchase some special harness.

That said, I'm not the one to ask, I assume it is plug and play but really Dave, Svxdc is the guy who knows about all of the swap and harness stuff. Obviously for the back up cam you will need his harness and a camera. I'm guessing your car has a mic for the phone, but no GPS antenna? Again I'm not the expert on this stuff. I just did a lot of reading on forums and a little experimenting. |

My car does have a BT mic but I'm not sure about the GPS antenna. Because of my lazyness I don't want to disassemble the dash to find out until I receive the HU. I'll do all at once lol. I think I'll need an antenna since from all the posts I read about NAV install said they don't include the antenna if you didn't get the car with it. |

![]() There are a bunch of different camera options on the camera set up page.
anyone know what they mean? Or which one we should be using? I just left it on the default. |

SVXdc, many thanks for the great customer service in purchasing your harness for this job. I just checked the Rydeen wiring harness with my VOM for continuity between the red pigtail at the head unit end and the red power lead end closer to the camera. They are indeed electrically connected with only 1 ohm resistance in the line. Good thing I ordered the harness with 6V output from Dave; this will save me some time. Thanks again, and I'll post up any items of note after going through the installation. |

![]() I think I'd be quite happy with the look of that Rydeen Duo. It looks integrated enough to be acceptable, even on my white sti.
Where did you order it? |

![]() Cool I'll look there. What's the difference between the Beat-Sonic harness and the one SVXdc makes? From the pictures it seems like there's more wires in the beat-sonic harness, possibly for the e-brake pass through and power? Was this harness literally plug & play or did you have to make any modifications?

![]() So I want to add a backup camera system to my 2014 STI hatch and was looking around at the back of the car. It seems there is a prebuilt camera slot in the middle, underneath the rear wing. I am curious as to why you did not use this location for the camera mount?
Thanks. |

![]() With the bypass configuration, what benefit does it have?
The vehicle has multiple signal checks and I'd assume they disable some usability of the nav unit. For instance, stopped at a traffic light you may input all fields on the nav. It's not based on parking brake signal. |
