Default Head unit wont fit in 07 STI

Hi, guys I just bought my sti a little over a month ago and among the few mods I have done under the hood I wanted to add a full touch screen head unit so I bought the pioneer avic d3 and I have installed many stereos in my past but after I got everything hooked up and went to put everything back together I found that I couldn't get the trim piece to fit back over the unit. And after measuring the opening in my trim piece I found it was only 6 and 3/4 inches instead of the normal 7 and I feel retarded because I looked everywhere and no one had this problem and I can't figure out how to get it to fit without cutting the trim piece anyone that could help please let me know it would be much appreciated

If the head unit itself has a trim ring on it you have to remove it, it's not used for an ISO-DIN installation.
