Post Another one bites the dust...

Oh how I hate large verticle structures that don't move.

I have managed to wreck another Impreza. I went up to Jake's shop to change my oil and install my mud flaps and the day ended with me hitting a tree in the Frederick watershed.

Everybody was basically OK. Jake had minor cuts to his finger and knee. I, once again, escape completely unharmed.

I was coming down a sweeping left that was going down hill. It was a mixture of packed snow, ice and wet gravel. I came in a little bit loose and I kinda pointed the car torwards the inside of the turn to avoid going off into the 10' - 15' creak bed on my right. I caught a burm with the left front wheel. Moments later,

tttt
rrrr
eeee
eeee

Then the passenger side hit the ground and the window next to Jake's head broke. Then, we end up sliding a bit to my left. The back end was in front.

I ended up facing about 5 o'clock with the left front wheel hanging off into the creak bed. The right rear was about 2 feet in the air. I felt like I was in a cartoon.

The car was balanced on the edge and rocking as I moved in the cockpit. Jake got out after he found the radio. I turned off the car and got out.

Be wary of snow, ice and gravel. Oh, and trees.

Matt

Good to hear you are okay, but too bad about the car.

Hopefully you can get full value from the insurance co.

If you do, you should buy that RX turbo out in Oregon and rally that.

I don't think the insurance company is ever going to know about this one. With the interior gone, I can't image that I would ever get anywhere near what I owe on it.

Oh, and they'd cancel me for wrecking 2 sports cars in an 8 month period.

Matt
I am very sorry to hear this. I think I speak for a lot of people in this area when I say we were excited to see how this car was going to progress. I hope that it is not a write off! Good luck getting things back in order. I agree that insurance should not find out about this. I have a friend who wrecked two pick-ups in a year and his insurance is @ $1800/6 months. Glad to hear that the human damage was not too serious. Get better soon Jake!

Matt,

Glad that you and Jake are ok. Damn, you are lucky to walk away from yet another wreck. Were you able to get the car?

Yes I am ok just a little pissed that the only accidents that I have ever been in have been in imprezas. After analyzing the situation I realize the we may have not rolled completely over. Instead we must have pivoted on the edge of the roof to land us facing the other direction. I dont think there would be any question that the car was being used for something other than the insurace company intended. Better keep it on the down low.

At least Jake has learned to be calm in these situations. He was quite angry when I wrecked my prez.

Heather and I were driving point on this mission. We were driving along very slowly. I was worrying enough about my car on that stuff. All the snow had been packed down to near-ice in areas. Then jake calmly radioed to us and said "Turn around and come back guys, Matt just rolled his car." Of course, my initial thought was "Jake, that is not even funny."

Since I wrecked my prez, one rule has completely controlled the way I drive on public roads. In "Subaru Vs. Stationary Object", The Object always wins.

Hey Lucien,
Maybe we shouldn't have drank all those Coronas before we left, eh!? Just Kidding!!

Sorry about your prez, Matt. I do hope it gets fixed.

Thanks for all the support guys.

Man-o-man you really downplayed how bad it could have been on the phone! I am relieved to hear you and jake are o.k., now that I see how bad it really was. I also hope the car is still straight- then at least there is a good chance you can keep working on it. Guess those mudflaps didn't add enough drag to slow you down afterall.

Mike-
glad you were kidding, but I bet they came in handy when you got home. Save some for Jake...he's gonna be sore today. Corona and advil.

Pics?
On the bright side, it makes for a great story...
Speed has nothing to do with slick surfaces. You want to see what happens on ice with a car that was STATIONARY? I direct you to: http://www.mongrelmotorsports.homestead.com/misc.html
Click on the 'crashes' link or whatever I called it; you can see my company car a couple years ago.
Always good when you can walk away mostly unscathed. Don't know you guys personally, but rest assured I've BTDT and share in your 'doesn't THIS suck' feelings.

If you guys keep smashing up your Imprezas I'm going to have to fly back for a visit and start busting some heads!

Matt, Jake, I'm glad you boys are okay.

Must have been a bad week for Impreza's, red impreza's anyway. I rear ended a pickup on Friday during my lunch break. I hit the pickup pretty hard, I was surprised how well the Subaru held up. Nothing to major, the car is still very driveable. Sorry to hear about the wreck man, glad everyone was ok.

Man, I just came back from skiing this weekend, I'm kinda bummed since I got a speeding ticket on the way home and this is the first thing I read on the board.
Real sorry to hear about the car Matt, but I am glad to hear you guys are essentially unharmed.
I think you're doing the right thing with the insurance. If you report it they will most definetly drop you and the next company will make you pay more money over the next few years than it will probably cost to repair the car. Either that or once the adjuster sees the car they might not cover the repair and may drop your policy anyway.
