Thumbs down Stohlman Mitsubishi (pretty long)

This doesn't really have much to do with Subaru stuff, just sharing my frustration.

After having such a great experiance with Stohlman Subaru and with my girlfriend looking for an SUV we decided to check out Stohlman Mitsubishi right next door for a Montero Sport. I couldn't have been more disappointed.

Everything started out great and the sales people were really friendly. We went out for a test drive and my girlfriend liked it and decided this is what she wanted. Well, they asked how much my girlfriend was going to put down which was about $3k and then told her to write out the check while they got the paperwork going. I told her not to write it out yet since we hadn't discussed pricing yet. This is when everything changed. My girlfriend had printed out a list of all the models of the Montero Sport with their Invoice and MSRP prices. We decided to start low and offer $100 over invoice and work our way up to about $700-800 and hold firm there. The sales person came back and we told him the price and he said that the invoice price didn't matter and that we were going to pay over MSRP and we couldn't make a fair offer under that.

Anyways, to shorten an already long story. We spent half the time arguing over what invoice and MSRP actually mean. We haggled over the price and held firm at the $700 over invoice and the sales manager came out and sat down with a sheet of paper showing a price that was about $1300 over invoice and said that is the absolute lowest he could go. We held firm and he kept asking us what our problem was. I asked to see the paper and there was a $700 advertising charge and he was trying to charge us twice for the destination charge. We got up and walked out very disappointed.

I understand that the dealer has to make a little money and recoup some of the expense, but I have never been charged for their advertising. Hopefully this will save someone some time and money. The entire ordeal left me feeling very pressured. I still highly recommend Stohlman Subaru however. I have always had excellent service there especially from Wolf and Richie. Their service dept is also very mod friendly. Heh, just ask Piperclub if you don't believe me.

May your line be smooth

Some salespeople can just be annoying. I wonder if it would have made a difference if you showed them how cheap you could buy that vehicle online. I don't remember what sites sell cars for cheap.

I did something like that with Merchant's Tire and Auto Center. They sell kumhos. So, before buying from tirerack, I decided to try Merchant's. I printed out the offer from tirerack, went into Merchant's and asked the head guy if they price match with competitors. He said "How much were you looking to get the tires for?" I showed him the sheet with tirerack's price of ~$350 shipped to my door. He said that theirs are $115/tire (not $78 like tirerack) and they are installed. Well, I told him that I dont care about installation, I just want them in my hands and out the door. So he started talking about wholesale vs. retail crap. I am only a consumer and I don't give a crap about wholesale and retail. If Merchant's cant give me the same deal as tirerack, sorry you just lost some business.

I guess that guy doesn't consider tirerack a competitor. Well now I don't either since it's pretty obvious who would win.

Happy hunting for a Montero!

go out to sheehy mitsu-nissan. Great company and they have really good prices. My family has know them a while and buying cars from they is very easy and care free. P.S. At stohlman I've been dealling with the iternet sales guys and they don't know jack about the Impreza. I've heard that wolf is the man though so i'm gonna go run over there today
