weird idle
I have. 2010 wrx, first wrx ive owned with the drive by wire system. Ive noticed my idle hangs at 1500 rpms sometimes after i let off the gas and then sometimes it drops to 400 rpms like its gonna cut off and bumps up to normal idle. Only mods are a k&n drop in filter(there when i bought it), nameless exhaust, prosport boost gauge. Any ideas? This normal for this car? I have an appointment tomorrow to get the car looked over at subaru. Just wanted your opinions. Vaccume reads at -20 at idle and about -18 when AC is on.

Quick update-
changed the filter to a STP filter (seems very similar to a Subaru OEM filter), only one the parts store had, car seems to drive a lot smoother and picks up better..kinda weird. also i went back through all my vacuum lines for my boost gauge and snugged them up a bit more and re zip tied the ends. Gauges reads -21 or -20 at idle and peaks at 15 psi of boost. Just seems to idle funny. no CEL's though. |

We're you getting misfire codes when idling rough, I'm having a similar problem with my 10 sedan from stock to now stage 2 it idles rough as hell, changed the plugs and still does it. Don't think it has a boost leak because it's inconsistent, some days ill have tons of trouble with it and others it's fine. Pm me if you have any ideas

it is completely normal, there are multiple posts about this issue. it has to do with the way subaru has tuned the ecu for emissions. the only known fix at this time (to my knowledge) is to get an AP and turn up your idle RPM by 100-200. thats what me and many others have done and it fixed the problem every time. Good luck

If you have your ac on, the ecu seems like it struggles to keep it running occasionally. Especially pulling up to lights etc.

Also, When using a K&N filter, there has been some problems mentioned about weird idling. The cause is usually from over oiling the filter element. The extra oil drips off and is sucked into the intake pipe, getting the MAF sensor dirty, causing the idle to get messed up. Also some say A K&N filter lets to much dirt through the filter causing a dirty MAF. Not sure if that's true, just some people say that.
