Default question about winter tires

Hey everyone,
since I got new wheels w/ 3 season tires I decided to buy dedicated winter tires for my stock rims. I'm probably gonna go with Blizzaks. Can anyone give me any other reccomendations? I don't want all season tires since I'll have my 17"ers for every season other than winter.

I'm taking into consideration the following factors for my area (Maryland):

We get ice or freezing rain more often than snow.
The snow we get is 4" on average.
We have many days that are bright and sunny.

So I'd be looking for a tire that can grip snow but is geared more towards wet and frozen conditions, but won't make me sacrifce TOO much in dry conditions.

Default Why buy winter tires?

Why buy winter tires? Just buy another, older Subaru. Or drop your car off at the dealer and drive that Echo around that you were so fond of.

Personally, I am a big fan of Dunlop D60 A2's. I had them on my Legacy and they were a great all-around tire.

I too am going to be getting winter tires to go on the stock rims. I've got the same kind thinking that Ron has about not giving up too much dry performance. I've checked the offering off tirerack and such, but I'd like to know what those that live in our area are driving on.

I'm thinkin' mayber LM-22's or Pilot Alpins
