Default Product Release! Mishimoto Direct Fit Oil Cooler for the BRZ/FR-S!

Mishimoto FRS/BRZ Direct Fit Oil Cooler Kit

The Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ platforms have exploded in the aftermarket industry, becoming two of the most popular tuner cars in a while. The chassis just begs for modification, as it seems the performance potential for these cars is near limitless. Mishimoto knew immediately when these cars were released that they would be big players in the aftermarket industry, and that they would soon need an upgraded cooling system. The engineers at Mishimoto began designing products for these cars right away, and they have come up with some amazing cooling products to keep your FR-S/BRZ nice and cool, even after a hard day of driving.

As we have seen with many performance-oriented cars, after just a short time most drivers want more power! But, with more power comes heat, which means itís time to upgrade the cooling system. Thatís where the Mishimoto Direct-Fit Oil Cooler Kit comes into play.

As with all our direct-fit products, the Mishimoto Direct-Fit Oil Cooler fits perfectly in the front grille area, sandwiched between the factory front-crash bar and plastic undertray, to maximize airflow. The steel-braided oil lines route around the radiator and connect to the provided Mishimoto Sandwich Plate Adapter, which sits neatly between the oil filter and filter housing. The engineers at Mishimoto estimate that this install will take only two hours and will not require any permanent modification to your vehicle.

For this specific kit, the engineers needed to focus on the housing for the oil filter. For the sandwich plate to fit on the FR-S/BRZ oil filter housing, a spacer was created so that the sandwich plate would clear the lip on the housing. First, they used a 3-D printer to create prototypes of the spacer. They then performed stress tests on the different designs to determine the design for the strongest spacer. Additionally, to prevent a small leak from developing, they increased the diameter of the spacer so as to cover the rear opening of the oil drain.

The orientation of the filter on the housing presented yet another challenge. The oil filter is upside down, so oil drips when it is removed. The engineers had to come up with a way to catch the excess oil and prevent a mess. This led to the creation of the billet aluminum excess oil catch, which sits between the sandwich plate and the oil filter.

The Mishimoto Direct-Fit Oil Cooler for the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ was designed with one thing in mind: performance. This kit allows users to take their cars to the racetrack on a hot summer day, or to add more power to their vehicles, without having to worry about oil temperatures reaching a critical level. And as always, all our Mishimoto products are backed by a lifetime warranty.

Top four things you need to know about this oil cooler:
  • Provides for dramatic temperature drop
  • Billet CNC excess oil catch allows for clean oil changes!
  • Minimal pressure loss
  • Direct fit for the Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S, and Toyota GT86

Looking for more cooling solutions for your FR-S/BRZ? Mishimoto will be releasing silicone hoses, an aluminum radiator, and a thermostat for the FR-S and BRZ very soon!
