Default Acura TL > Subaru Legacy... now with 100% more Jeep

Dear bone hammers,

I have listed my Spec.B up for sale in hopes of buying a vehicle I won't feel terrible about putting on 400 miles per week. As much as I like German cars, I don't like high maintenance costs and s**t reliability. Recently, the Acura TL SH-AWD has caught my eye and even though I used to think it was one of the ugliest cars ever made, it has grown on me, which is the same with every Subaru.

I'm looking at the 2010 TL with about 30k miles and tech package in my price range. I'd like to try to find one with the 6 speed manual, but I will test drive the 6 speed auto to see if it's tolerable.

Any reasons not to get a TL?

Hugs and Kisses,
Donzo

**UPDATE ON POST # 116**

This one is currently listed on eBay. I don't have any intention on buying it, but it's cool looking and relevant to the topic.

The 2011 is way better looking. Kind of a huge car, though, that's my only turn-off. Well that and 3800 lbs. Good luck finding a manual used, they don't sell many of them.

And of course, you should get a Honda Civic Automatic instead. It's way better.

It has the face and ass that only a mother could love. The plenum on the front isn't so bad, but the rear is awful. I can't get over how ugly it is and I'm a former engineer for Honda. I was an intern in product development when this generation was in development and I remember seeing early pictures of it and dry heaving.

The SH-AWD 6MT model is actually a blast to drive, but I imagine you're going to have a difficult time finding one. Prices are likely to be inflated, even on the used car market; niche vehicle.

ive always thought that Acura really messed up the TL with the way they did the back end on the new generation the first generation of the redesign(04?) I think is still one of the best looking midpriced sports sedans.

Yeah, but with a budget of mid to high 20's with low mileage, the 2010 model is the only one that falls into that category.

No, I have a somewhat rare, turbo Legacy that all I do is put miles on. It's a fun car that I don't have any fun with. Hence, buying a not-as-fun car that has more amenities.

I'm not looking to buy that murdered out space ship. It's just one that I saw on eBay.

Yeah, it's... unique?

There's a 6MT locally that the owner is looking to trade in for a truck in 4-5 weeks but will sell to me if my car is sold by then. Has 30k miles and he's asking $27k obo.

I had an 04. Nice car until I realized I should have kept the 02 WRX.

two completely different cars. one's a tarted up econobox and the other is a entry level pseudo sporty-luxury midsize sedan.

So besides the questionable aesthetics, is there anything else to know about or look for with the TL?

Lowering = camber and toe issues = alignment = tire wear

I have no experience with the SH-AWD

Automatics have issues (MT you should be ok)

Random squeaks etc.

After a couple years working at an Acura dealer they could have more reliable electronics.

We'd replace multiple window motors and lock actuators, usually daily. Just parts like those.

Great cars mechanically unless you don't maintain it.

Previous generation A/T TLs have been more problematic. Current generation mechanicals are fairly robust. Shares a lot in common with MDX powertrain.
