Default my gf's 2.2L is on crack (not cross post)

My GF has a '97 Impreza L 2.2. She was having a low speed wheel shudder issue when turning that I decided had to do with the fact that her tires were about 5,000 miles overdue to be rotated. so I rotated them and put the car into FWD mode. I wanted to burn off some of the excess tread . So I went down towards the a parking lot nearby, and there was a straight stretch. I decided to time the 0-60 for kicks. I staged the launch kinda half-assed. I didn't put much effort into it. I revved to about 2K and took off spun both wheels... accelerated... tranny shifts into second and CHIRPS THE WHEELS! in an auto! so when I hit 60 I stop the watch, and look down. "8.8" it reads.

Is it just me or is that really freakin good for a 2.2 liter impreza? My TS can barely make 9.2. And I've spent quite a bit of time under my hood doing this and that to my EJ25. Thankfully I haven't dumped much money into mine. Or I'd be real depressed . I was insanely jealous when I got back. I figured maybe it was just because it was in FWD mode. So I popped my hood and threw in the FWD fuse. I went down to the stretch I was just at and did the same thing in my TS. I staged. revved to 2.3K, and let go. Tires screamed (I lost a lot of time there), accelerated, tranny shifted into second. no chirp . and when the pull was over I looked down. 9.8. I know I lost a ton of time to spinning tires. I did another pull and got 9.1. faster than average for me, but still slower than I'd like.

I think a lot of it has to do with my car being 300 pounds heavier. Also, my transmission shifts so smoothly you can't feel it happening. no jerking or lunging. perfect smoothness. even at WOT. I loose several tenths to the slow shifts. I don't know why hers shifts so damn fast. I've always noticed it, but this is the first time I've done a straight-up comparison.

so my question to the tranny forum is, how can I make my tranny shift faster? are shifts this quick normal in 2.2Ls? can I take the TCU from a junked L and put it in my TS to have it shift quicker? I've always found my shifts take way too long. Also, I've never heard of an automatic chirping the tires into second. I was tickled when it happened (and depressed when my TS couldn't do the same ). am I missing something, or is that just damn cool?

I don't know much about slushboxes but is it possible that in FWD only mode the tranny loses less power trying to drive the rear wheels as well?
