Default 2012 2.0 quieter muffler?

Yeah yeah I know this is the first and last time anyone will ask this question. I just don't like how damn loud it is for a tiny eco engine. It's borderline ricer when it's cold and people think I'm racing all the time because of how loud it is under normal acceleration.

So is there a muffler or other simple mod to make it quieter without losing much HP?

Are you sure you don't have an exhaust leak? The stock exhaust should hardly be audible.

Ditto. Stock is pretty quiet on the grand scale of things. However, if you do want quieter, you can hop over to Midas or someplace similar and have them weld in a small glasspack(typically metal, not glass) somewhere. I would say resonator, but most shops these days sell only a metal fiber filled type because it functions better. You won't find a plain, hollow resonator unless you shop on eBay, and you won't really see much of a price difference doing so either. The only trick here is having a place to put the glasspack. They aren't big but require a little length and some extra diameter of room to fit somewhere in the catback area. You can certainly have a muffler shop stick the car on a lift, look at feasibility, and then do the work if one will fit. Improvement should be pretty noticeable.

I guess I exaggerated the loudness, I just don't like the tone. My mistake.

You'll hardly ever find an economy 2.0 liter engine that sounds well..

The headers are already UEL. You're not going to get a better sound from any other headers

^ are you certain? Even on 2.5 imprezas they switched from UELs to ELs for a better torque curve a few years ago, so I doubt they'd change the design back towards something less efficient, especially in a smaller motor..

On a thread someone said the 2.0s have what is effectively a UEL already and changing it out won't make a huge difference

It's an EL header. He spoke of a design quirk that may give off a slight rumble but it's an EL.

And yet you're still a ****ing retard if you spend $600 on minimal improvement in sound.

Ya exactly, there's plenty of other worthwhile mods that could be bought with that kind of money

I must be working under a different model of 2.0 FB Impreza 5 days a week than what you folks are talking of. beginning in 2012 the 2.0 FB has what Subaru calls a 4 to 1 convergence system to optimize exhaust flow.
