Do you plan on adding the top spoiler back? Not sure if I dig not having anything there
Widebody looks amazing and congrats on it running again!! What are your plans for the color?

I've certainly done a lot of modifications to the vehicle, but all of them are very subtle in my opinion. Even the most "extreme" mod I've done (the wide body), anyone who isn't a Subaru enthusiast wouldn't even recognize it as a modification and to me that is awesome. The only untouched panels on the entire car are the front door, but still the car looks entirely OEM. This is also why I chose to paint my FMIC black, why I don't have any red hella horns showing through the grill, I don't have any funny colored mud flaps, I don't have a million different colored stickers... I like clean, simple, tasteful modifications. All of the body panels are OEM though some have minor modifications like shaving the front license plate mount, filling the "moustache holes", shaving the rear emblem and shaving the rear wing all in the name of "clean and simple". The later two required welding to fill the holes, the front bumper mods required just some plastic welding / fuser. The side skirts are from an 04/05 RS which I think look at lot more clean and simple than the STi skirts. I understand that some people modify their car to stand out, and have other people notice their mods... Personally I find it more rewarding to have subtle modifications only noticeable to the trained eye who will really appreciate them. Thanks for the kind words I'm really excited despite the fact that I won't really be driving it until the filler is done and its painted. I'm keeping the original color (of my old car) - Urban Grey Metallic. It's my favorite grey, darker than crystal metallic but not as dark as dark grey metallic. The fact that its one of the more "rare" Subie grey's is also appealing to me. I was considering going with a blood red / merlot color but I finally decided on UGM to keep it looking as OEM as possible. Last edited by BagRidersJohn; 05-05-2014 at 01:01 PM. |

Love the work man.
I REALLY like the Saab9-2x rear end I hope to one day do the swap on my wagon. It's so clean and still has a smooth flowing top spoiler. |

Thanks for the love all
I posted my experiences with the reverse intake over in the reverse intake thread. I figure I'll add it in here as well just for better search engine results ----- Adding my experience here for the community 2006 WRX Reversed Intake Manifold Before welding up the charge piping Note: I did not grind the alternator housing at all. It clears the AC belt just BARELY at this height. Unlike most, I did not drop the alternator way down, instead I used a tensioner pulley on the Alt/PS belt allowing me to keep the stock length belt. Figure that will save me some headache down the road. More info on this later in the post. Screencap from video of engine running: Here is my general summary of my experience and parts that I used: GrimmSpeed 8mm Phenolic Spacers (Gaskets on both sides) Perrin Turbo Inlet (I had to grind off a few studs in the "arches" of the intake manifold" OEM Length Alt/PS Belt - I used a small roller pulley from a Mk3 Volkswagen TDI or B5 Passat. This pulley is used on the timing belt for those engines. I simply used a long bolt, metal spacer (from Lowes) and a nut to position the roller pulley on the Alt/PS belt. The bolt is secured to the alternator bracket, as seen in the photos. Various hoses and couplers, prepare to make a few trips to the local auto shop if you don't have extra stuff on hand. Mk3 VW TDI / B5 Passat TDI Timing Belt Relay Roller Pulley for Alt/PS Belt Tensioner: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0066TGPJE/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 As you can (should) imagine, every connection on the manifold will be relocated and therefore you either need to do a bunch of retapping or extending hoses. Obviously it's cleaner to re-tap or use a vacuum manifold, but I chose just to extend hoses. Off the top of my head, here's what I remember extending and other little "gotcha" type stuff:
I think that is just about it. Hope this helps someone! |

Just about time for primer!
Super excited! This last weekend we were down in Helen Georgia for a big VW/Audi show "SoWo" or "Southern Worthersee". We drove our freshly resprayed SEMA project all the way down from VT- about 1200 miles. It was an absolute blast driving this beast, and was a real head turner at the show. Obligatory picture Hope to be able to share more photos of my WRX this week, the paint has been purchased so it will be sprayed very soon! |

In lieu of pictures of my car here are some photos of snapped of the process of rotating the post on the alternator which was required in order to clear the throttle body. Maybe I could have avoided this with a spacer, but anyhow this is what I did. I broke my last alternator doing this the wrong way so I figured this may help someone.
Disclaimer: you break it you buy it :P You can http://imgur.com/a/T2161 Alright so first off, and this is where I went wrong last time, pop off this little plastic cap and removethe nut below it. This is paramount for success. Dirty alternator in the back pictured with the cap still on. Once that's done, whip out a dremel and go to town on the little square chunk of plastic that locks the post into the alternator housing. I used a small drill bit and that seemed to work well. Once you're done it should look a bit like this. Alright now at this point you're probably trying to rotate it without any success. Stop doing that and instead grab a flathead screwdriver and carefully position it so that you're trying to wedge it between the post and the alternator housing and give it a gentle tap with a hammer of your choice. Try moving around the outside as to evenly apply pressure. Eventually it should pop loose and this is what it looks like. So now you see why you couldn't rotate that thing. Well anyhow, simply reattach the post to the spline on the alternator making some effort to line up the grooves on the splin. Press it back in and screw the nut back on to the threaded portion of the spline and you're done! Hopefully you didn't break your alternator |
