Default 2015 STI Trunk paint chip issues - post here if you have any

Some people have been posting up pics of this happening, so to give everyone a warning to go out and check your trunk for chips asap. If you do call your dealer immediately.

If pressed down with enough force, the edge of the trunk definitely contacts the body of the car

But don't be a dick about it. Just let them know and they'll take care of it.

Took it to the dealership. SOA is getting involved. Looks like it might be related to the rubber bumpers on the underside of the trunk.

Yep just left service for the second time. This time they took more pics and measurements. The service manger said they might have been aware of the problem before I brought it up

Nope. These are race cars, you can't just repaint. You have to replace the entire back half of the vehicle's body work. It's about a 14 hour shop job. Effing awful...

that it's even a question what they'll do with it. What are they going to do? Paint it, put on a new trunk lid... Any number (where that number is 2) of options.

IDC even if it's just some touch-up paint. I just don't want it to happen again. Hence the reason the SOA rep is going to look at the cause of the problem. No point in fixing it if the problem continues to occur!

The subaru rep inspecting my car said it could be the quality of sheet metal they used on the truck. I don't think that's the problem. I think it's just the stoppers. We will soon find out. They will def repaint the trunk after they fix the problem wherever it lies. All the people that have this problem, after you go to service and document it, call soa and tell them how disgusted you are about this and how much time you wasted. Maybe they will credit a payment or 2 or send u a gift cert for suby stuff. Hoping to get spt lips. Sucks that I already ordered the front and it's coming in today

You better push for a repaint or they will try and just touch it up.

Of course! I let them know I wanted a repaint already. But I might also ask for a new trunk cause I don't want muti layers of paint on there. Don't want that noticed when I go to sell it

Has anyone confirmed whether this issue is isolated to the STI and not the WRX?

It's a Subaru, the entire car will have chipped paint within the first 6 months of ownership.

Where are you going to sell this car? Concours d'Elegance?
It's a chip, it might needs to be fixed yes, but a new trunk?

LOL Subaru. In this day and age this is more than a little embarassing to not be able to align body parts. It's possible the added weight of the spoiler wasn't taken into consideration when they designed the Impreza trunk? If it's hitting on both sides I'm not sure how the dealer could fix that.

Man some of you are such turds. Easy to say when your driving an old 2008. It's a new car that someone just dropped $30k plus on. Those corners are oxidizing already on some of those cars.

Why should I have muti layers of paint on a brand new car. When I go to sell it and they see a repaint they will think it was in an accident

Honestly I would just use touch-up paint as if applied properly it will be only noticeable to you because you know it's there. I wouldn't repaint the trunk for it as you run the risk of matching the color and shops will want to blend, etc. The issue is making sure it doesn't come in contact with the body in the future. I expect the weight of the spoiler may be too much for the trunk in that it causes some side to side motion when slamming the trunk down.
