Default 2016 Wrx & Sti

Looks like the '16 WRX can be ordered as of yesterday, still no hatch/5 Door option. A couple of changes with colors: Lightning Red and Galaxy Blue are replaced with Pure Red and Lapis Blue Pearl (same as '15 Legacies and Outbacks) respectively.

STI Limiteds have a choice of the normal spoiler OR a lip spoiler. Both are different model codes. Oddly enough, Launch Edition looks like it returns for '16.

Nothing else with regard to equipment updates (i.e. updated touchscreen unit) to report as of yet. Engine options (2.0 and 2.5) remain the same.

Sounds about right, I was expecting the Starlight audio system. Kinda surprised if they don't offer that. The different spoiler option on the Limited STI is a smart touch.

Golf R this year. Focus RS sometime next year are probably your best options.

Once again it seems like Galaxy Blue Pearl will be an incredibly rare color, it makes me even more upset I couldn't find one for sale locally and had to settle for WR Blue on my WRX.

I can't imagine them not including the new head unit the Impreza/Crosstrek has though.

I guess if there are any engine updates they will be in 2017 when the next level of CAFE comes around. Hopefully the STi gets a proper update then rather than another band aid.

Glad I didn't wait another year to see if there would be a hatchback. Oh well.

Good chuckle...

As of this post, SOA can't order them yet AND can still order '15s. Must be nice to be in an independent.

I'm going to wait til the end of the month in anticipation of an announcement or blurb from Subaru via social media. If not, there are a few used WRX with very low-mileage sitting on my local dealership's lot that I can get away with for a very good price. Temptations all around.

Yup, forgot to mention that orders are live as of 4/20 for Subaru of New England only.

No pricing/equipment updates outside of colors and the model codes have been released.

Subaru is known for slightly changing the colors every few years.. Only the diehard Subaru enthusiasts will even be able to tell the difference between Lapis and Galaxy unless they're parked next to each other. Subaru did three different blacks within a few years.. one had red flake, one had gold flake and one had blue flake. To 99.9% of the people out there.. they're just black and to 99.999% they're all painted with terribly cheap, thin coats.

Why on earth were you expecting a new engine for MY16?

We told you it wasn't going to happen. MY17 would be the absolute soonest, and it ain't lookin' good.

CAFE will change what's under the hood. STI should be getting a new engine eventually. Just gotta wait. Meanwhile, the STI is selling better than ever. So apparently the consumer isn't too upset at Subaru for putting the EJ back in this gen.

Of course not, because subaru is getting more typical buyers, thanks to the new bland jelly bean styling. These types of buyers see only the most superficial aspects of the car and won't know jack **** beyond what JD power and/or consumer reports says about a brand (not even the specific car they're buying).

What would those types of people have to be upset about? They literally don't know and don't care.

I don't really care about the stereo unless it has Carplay and Android Auto, otherwise I'd probably just yank it for an aftermarket 7" screen with those features.

Anyone think it's likely the MY17 WRX will get a minor update like the 2006 WRX, new wheels etc?

All I want is for subaru to change a couple of things for the MY16. The foglight cover to the JDM's, the headunit to the touchscreen unit and the 17" wheels to 18" wheels. Even if they are the same ones that the wrx S4 has. I'd be happy with those changes. Of course the car could use a bit of widening on the fenders just enough to make it look more aggressive and fit more. So that it doesn't seem so dam docile. If the fenders were to be more flared like in the previous model if would not look so bad.

What's the difference between the fog area? I saw an S4 in Japan and didn't really notice a difference.

I read somebody on subaruoutback.org reporting that wrx/sti orders open on the 23rd of april. No idea who he got it from though.

Probably from here:

http://m.automotive-fleet.com/news/2...arting-in-june

I just want to specify that the last couple of '16 order dates from them came and went, so it has a good chance to be incorrect again.

The order info I posted is specific to Subaru of New England only. SNE is its own distributor, separate from the rest of SOA. Our '15 WRX orders closed earlier than the rest of SOA. We're on a different timeline from the rest of SOA.

The rest of the updates regarding color and models should be the same as everywhere else.

I really like the lapis blue on the new Legacy/Outbacks and it should look good on the WRX. Galaxy Blue never seemed to be a popular color.

Yeah, I'm kinda looking forward to Lapis Blue on the WRX. Galaxy Blue is a little too dark and muted, IMO. Lapis pops in the sunlight.
