Cool

Question, I have the 6.5 inch stock radio in my new Impreza. My son ( who is an IT expert) helped me to format a SanDisk 128 GB memory stick to download over 400 songs for my wife's listening enjoyment. When we turn on the Media app to play the music, we get a message saying 'Media is loading", and it seems to take a long time to download.
Is this normal, and it has to 'reload' every time we stop and start the car!
I also noticed last night, that with my cell phone (samsung s4)paired to the media app, all kind of weird things happened, such as pandora popping up all the time on the phone, giving voice commands to the media player would cause the phone to activate various programs, etc.
I have gone through the manual that came with the car about the Starlink media on the radio, and cannot find answers to this issue.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am guessing you using a card reader to plug it into the USB port. I forget where the USB is on the base model. I know the above models has two USB ports in the center arm rest compartment.
As for Pandora popping up. If your phone is connected by Bluetooth to the car the Android Auto App will start up on the phone. I have to exit the app and then hook my USB cable to connect the phone. Then Android Auto pops up again but on the car display instead.
What other things is your phone doing?

OK, I think I solved the problem. I deleted my phone from the media app, and now the usb stick works fine! It seems to me that the phone was sending a signal that was working against the radio,(RF?) and it was confusing the radio.
Now, when I turn the car on, where ever I left the last song, it resumes automatically. But if I need to use Android Auto, I can reinstall the app, as needed.

Just started happening this week... Android Auto cuts out after 30 or so seconds of connection. I disconnect the phone from car, reboot and then reconnect... and then it works.

Mine does that as well, doesn't take more than maybe ten seconds, be patient.

FYI, for those running Android Auto... Waze is now accessible from the Navigation Drop-Down/Selection. This make kC very happy.

I have a easy fix to prevent Android Auto from starting up right away. Just turn your Bluetooth off on the phone. You dont need the Bluetooth anyway when the phone is connected directly to the car. The Android Auto will let you to make hand free calls and the such as if you were using the Bluetooth. So basically the Bluetooth isn't needed at all when directly connected by the USB cable.

Default Having some issues

I just discovered this forum while researching some problems I'm experiencing with my 2017 Impreza Sport 5-dr. I have the 8.0" display w/o Nav and H/K audio. I've had the car about a week, and the first page of my SiriusXM presets (but only the first page ) say "Initializing" indefinitely. I tried setting them all again, but it happened again the next afternoon. I also lost all my phonebook "Favorites" once (Android). I added them back and haven't lost them again (yet).

I saw some other people in this thread having similar issues earlier in the year. Is there a fix from the dealer?

I had a few FM stations set. Lost them to "initializing". Reset them. A few days later, again.

I'm also just waiting for a fix.

I have had this happen to me more than once. I cannot seem to find a pattern as to why it does it. No other saved data is lost, just the FM presets

Initially I thought it was when I left my bluetooth as the active source on the radio, but I have since figured out that was not the cause.

kC have you found any patterns?

So far two times my stereo speakers would go wacky. Today I disconnected my AA and the radio resumes as normal. Just this time the volume was way off with tons of bass and really loud even at volume 1which is crazy. The first time it happened it was with the AA connected. It did fix itself later.

Had this car since mid Feb. 2017. Radio has a crackle/pop when listening on AM only. Had it in to the dealer 3 times. Each time a tsb software update was done. Dealer said on the last trip that Subaru was aware of the problem with AM and that they expect a fix in the fall. How long do I wait?

AM is highly susceptible to interference and static. Kinda why FM was accepted more for higher fidelity on a different wavelength. Seriously, sometimes just going under high tension power lines will induct static into the signal.

Ever listened on AM while a thunderstorm was going on? Kinda fun.

MAP VOLUME ISSUE

Yesterday a glitch arose in my car that I'm sure I'm not the only one to have happened to. I also found a quick remedy to get control back.

I had AA hooked up and had Pandora playing. I also had Waze running on the display, without navigation enabled (just free display).

When I adjusted any volume, the volume icon/display was only "MAPS" (Meaning, it was only adjusting the volume of the maps voice prompts, not radio/music/other media.)

Steps I took to eliminate (None of the following worked)...
1) Switched to HOME. Tried adjusting volume. Only Maps Volume (MV) Icon/Volume Dial.
2) Switched to MUSIC (Pandora). Tried adjusting volume. Only Maps Volume (MV) Icon/Volume Dial.
3) Switched to RADIO/SIRIUS. Tried adjusting volume. Only Maps Volume (MV) Icon/Volume Dial.
4) Switched to MAPS/WAZE. Entered a destination. Waited for a voice prompt. Tried adjusting volume. VOLUME OF VOICE PROMPTS DID NOT CHANGE. Only Maps Volume (MV) Icon/Volume Dial.
5) Unplugged phone. Waited 10-15 seconds. Was on RADIO/SIRIUS. Tried adjusting volume. Only Maps Volume (MV) Icon/Volume Dial.
6) Stopped car. Shut off. Open and closed car door. Waited 30 seconds. Started car. Tried adjusting volume. Only Maps Volume (MV) Icon/Volume Dial.
7) REBOOTED PHONE. Waited. Plugged phone back in. Waited for AA to pop up. Tried adjusting volume. Only Maps Volume (MV) Icon/Volume Dial.
8) Switched back to WAZE. Waited for voice prompt again (in case replugging would release it). Tried adjusting volume. Only Maps Volume (MV) Icon/Volume Dial.

Ok. So now I've tried quite a bit. Radio is stuck on "Maps Volume" for some reason. With or without phone plugged in.

Going through some other things in my head.... What else can I try? None of the above worked. The radio was stuck on one, preset volume. What haven't I tried?

Oh... hmmm..
9) Switch from WAZE to GOOGLE MAPS. Put in destination. Wait for voice prompt. Adjust volume. VOLUME ADJUSTS and SYSTEM RELEASED CONTROL.

Could then adjust volume for radio/media/etc...

So, if your volume gets stuck on "MAPS", switch to the Google Maps program, put in destination. It should then trigger a "RELEASE" command once the voice is done for the "MAPS" volume control and let the radio take back over.

IMHO, while I think it's great that they have separate volume controls for maps voice prompts, different from the volume control for Bluetooth or the radio, I think eliminating that and just letting the volume of the radio knob dictate volume would be the better bet. Less code. Less complexity. One knob to control them all.

Default Latest firmware version

Just bought my 17' Impreza limited a week ago, all 6 of my radio preset changed to "Initializing" after a week. I have to re-create them all. Anyone know what's the latest firmware version? Mine is Rel1.17.08.20.

Also the firmware update over the phone seems to be very buggy. The first week I have the car it never able to check if the firmware needs to be updated. After like a whole week then it is now saying my firmware is up to date. I saw a number of people bought their car back in Feb and posting their firmware version same as mine so I'm really skeptical if mine is the latest.

I've seen a youtube video showing the link below to download the files but there's no mention about what to do with the files (extract or not) (https://content.subarunet.com/snet/b..._downloads.htm)

Any one bother to visit a dealer to do the firmware upgrade? What's your version?

I tried to get a cohesive way for people to share this info (on the previous page of this thread) but nobody is biting.

Mine is also Rel1.17.08.20, it's going to the dealer tonight. I'll see what happens.

Software was updated in my 2017 6.5" stereo.

Old version was Rel1.17.08.20, new version is Rel2.17.22.20.

The way it was written on the invoice was as follows:

Cause: Software update was performed for TSB 15-211-17R
103228 Harman Reprogram 2 (after WTN74), WC

I have not tested the update adequately to know if all of the issues are resolved, but one immediate difference I noticed is that when I get back in the car (with the phone left attached from earlier), carplay actually works. Previously I would have to disconnect and reconnect the phone every time I re-started the car.
