Default Hyundai Sonata’s Racy New Look

Quote:

GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Hyundai Sonata

Sketches of the new-look Hyundai Sonata have broken cover a week ahead of the car’s public debut at the 2017 Geneva motor show on March 8, revealing sporty new visuals for the range-topping ‘Turbo’ model.

Arriving in Australia around the middle of this year, the revised Sonata will take the fight to the likes of the Mazda6, Subaru Liberty, Toyota Camry and Ford Mondeo with a premium new look that draws on Hyundai‘s sporty new ‘N’ performance sub-brand.

The Korean car-maker says the new Sonata has experienced a “dramatic design change” to better slot in with the brand’s evolving design language, featuring a new front fascia comprising a large “cascading grille”, as Hyundai coins it.

This is flanked by vertically-aligned LED running lights and sculpted bonnet on the Turbo model, giving the car a low, wide stance and more road presence than previously. The top-range Turbo variant will retain the current car’s potent 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (180kW/350Nm), with a potential uptick in power.

Hyundai Sonata flagship ‘Turbo’ model to get aggressive new styling
Sonata pricing starts at $30,590 in Australia, for the 2.4-litre non-turbo petrol engine (138kW/241Nm), and tops out at $45,490 for the Premium model.

However, with the sophisticated new-look – which also includes fancy-pants LED brake lights inspired by the company’s Genesis luxury brand and broader back end – and an updated interior design sprouting more standard features and expected technology upgrades, modest price rises or even readjustments of the model line-up could occur.

It’s understood that Hyundai Australia is still in the process of locking down specification levels for the latest Sonata.

Stay tuned to our coverage of this year’s Geneva motor show next week for more details and images of the assertively-styled 2017 Sonata.

Looks like the tail lights were ripped from a Lambo.

Do you want touring cars? Because this is how you get touring cars.

If it looks ANYTHING like that, they'll have a hit.

When they decide to upgrade their models, you just never know how far up in cache the Koreans will jump. Good for them!

Looking good! I really would take a hyundai / kia over a new toyota or nissan car. I've ridden in numerous hyundai / kia uber cars and they are all really comfortable (mid / fullsize cars), didn't really show any sign of wear despite the mileage on them and the 100k mile warranty is legit.

I think they look good, but it does bother me a little to see them copying someone else's design. Of course it's just a drawing and not the real thing. It will be interesting to see what they look like in real life.

Dollars to donuts those hips/wheel wells become slabs almost straight up and down.

It's those arches that give that car a great, wide look.

That is some spicy Kimchi I like it.

Going to look at a Stinger GT once they are out depending on price of course. I like what Hyundai and Kia are doing lately.

That's a good looking car. But so was lots of concept sketches that never translated. I'll save my judgement for the production version. I'm guessing the tiny greenhouse and giant wheel arches won't survive but Hyundai has been pretty adventurous in their styling in the past so you never know.

Honestly, specifically with the Sonata, Hyundai has done a great job staying on or just ahead of the curve in its class when it comes to body style.

Default Leaked – Hyundai Sonata facelift is out and about

The South Korean automaker just started the teasing game for its upcoming refreshed 2018 Sonata, but here’s the model coming out of hiding already thanks to a leaked official image.

The teasing sketches from the company provided a more exciting look, but we can still see the improvements over the outgoing version – and we also have to consider the regular sedan will receive a beefier appearance when optioned as the Turbo model available in the United States as the Sport 2.0T version. As far as we can tell, this is the home-bound South Korean version, but the model arriving as a 2018 MY in America should basically look the same.

The new design includes a bigger front grille, modified bumper with larger vents, as well as new headlight styling. Additionally, the strip of LED daytime running lights seems to be shorter now, and the creases on the hood seem to have grown in size – but we’ll pass judgment on that once truly official high resolution images become available. We can’t see the back just yet, but we can expect some minor cosmetic tweaks there as well – with updated bumper and taillights. The US-bound Sonata is expected to come forward pretty quickly, with the rumor mill expecting the wraps to come off during the New York Auto Show coming in April.
