Default New medium-term management vision "STEP" 2018-2025

Subaru announced today the new medium-term management vision "STEP" (Speed, Trust, Engagement, Peace of mind & enjoyment)

Article on response.jp: https://response.jp/article/2018/07/10/311770.html

Press Releases:
https://www.subaru.co.jp/press/news/2018_07_10_6036/

Here is the Google Translated press release:
Quote:
Formulated SUBARU New Medium-Term Management Vision "STEP"
SUBARU has formulated a new medium-term management vision "STEP" with the aim of becoming a trustworthy presence by being sympathized and trusted by customers through the provision of "peace of mind and pleasure".

Under the new medium-term management vision "STEP", under the company's "unchanged management philosophy", "100% a year as a foundation in 2017" under the theme "To become" a presence and attractive company "based on customer first" The following three items are listed as the "2025 vision" towards "from a company that creates goods to a company that makes smiles", which is the "I would like to be listed".

1. Refine personality and become a different existence for customers
2. Each customer is the protagonist, develop business activities that resonate with the heart
3. Contribute to diversifying social needs and fulfill social responsibilities as a company

■ New Medium-Term Management Vision Name: Meaning of "STEP"

It is an acronym for the four elements that this vision is treating, "Speed", "Trust", "Engagement", "Peace of mind & enjoyment", and steadily gains ground in preparation for the coming "JUMP" The meaning of the term is put in it.
Also, since "Trust" is the most important element of "regain trust", I change the color of the logo and express it.

New medium-term management vision "STEP" Major initiatives

■ Organizational culture reform ‥ "Change the Culture"

We recognize that organizational culture reforms are an urgent issue that we must address now.
While protecting SUBARU's DNA, we aim to be a company that can respond flexibly with speed, sensitive to changes in the times and the world. Specifically, we will work to accelerate activities to create a correct company, change corporate culture and personnel / organization, review CSR activities, and promote systematization in general business activities.

■ Approach to quality improvement

We aim for "No.1 quality that customers can continue to use for a long time with peace of mind."
Specifically, we will review all processes related to quality from product planning to production, upgrade the level of production plants such as systemization, strengthen the quality management system, and improve the service infrastructure for customers.
We will set 150 billion yen (5 years) as an investment frame to improve these "total quality".

■ Innovation of SUBARU making

Starting "New SUBARU Creating Activity" as a new activity to realize improvement of customer value provided by SUBARU by "high quality" "high added value" "low cost" from products to services in general as well as from manufacturing I will.

■ Approach to security and safety

I will stick to "protect people's lives" and aim to zero death traffic accident * in 2030.
SUBARU does not have automation, but also refines driving support technology under the idea that "a person's good task is to respect it and move safely by the car supplementing the tasks that people are not good at" We will further improve collision safety performance.
We will further improve safety and safety by "intelligent technology" and "connecting technology".

*: No death accidents caused by pedestrians, bicycles, etc. due to collision with SUBARU

■ Efforts to strengthen brands

Cherish the connection between people and people, we will implement activities that SUBARU, dealerships, customers and the community unite.
In addition, we will collaborate new customers value with external partners through "SUBARU Digital Innovation" which is a new initiative and will enhance communication with customers utilizing connected technology.

■ Direction of product planning and design

Full model change of main models will be carried out every year. Furthermore, we aim to strengthen SUV and sports model which stand out personality.
We will evolve SUBARU's design identity Dynamic × Solid to a more 'bold' design representation.

■ Environmental Initiatives

In addition to improving fuel efficiency and environmental performance of products represented by CO2 reduction, we are working on contributing to the environment as a whole through SUBARU's features such as overall business activities from production to sales and management, durability, safety and practicality I will work on it.

■ Alliance with Toyota Motor Corporation

While making full use of SUBARU's uniqueness, collaborate strongly in "making better cars" and "responding to change in the whole mobility society", such as joint development of EV-based technologies and strengthening of cooperation in new generation technology areas such as Connected I will proceed.

■ Efforts toward creation of innovation

SUBARU-SBI Innovation Fund, a private fund that invests prospective venture companies in Japan and overseas that are expected to have synergy in existing business fields and new fields of SUBARU. We will take advantage of advanced external technology / business model information acquisition and challenge to new technology / new business model.

■ Market strategy

While maintaining growth in the United States, we aim to achieve sustainable growth that is appropriate for each market, such as Japan, Asia, Oceania, Russia, Latin America, Europe and China. We plan to sell 1.3 million units globally in 2025.

■ Aerospace business strategy

We will continue our efforts towards "stable growth" from "independence".
We will refine our overall business with the aim of expanding the SUBARU brand into the sky and space by promoting technology demonstration aiming at the next generation, building partnering strategies and promoting collaboration with automobiles.

■ Earnings plan / capital policy

· We will aim to become a high profit margin in the industry (operating margin of 10% or higher) by increasing the strategic investment and research and research expenses.
· Capital ratio of 50% is secured (lower limit), ROE aims at 15% or more.
· The net cash will be managed while considering the business environment with the February business as the lower limit.
· Continually and steadily paying attention to returning to shareholders, we will implement treasury stock acquisition flexibly according to cash flows.

That last graph seems to indicate that they want "bolder" designs. Does that mean they're coming around full circle from 2008, where their designs have been pretty "safe"?

Bahhumbug. I'm not a fan of the 2015+ overall. Too much 2012 Impreza.

“Furthermore, we aim to strengthen SUV and sports model which stand out personality.“

You mean by dropping the FXT from the lineup?

They admit they’re following the Toyota model. Appliances. Nothing but freaking A > B appliances.

All da things are more defined in the crossover segment.

I truly want to see how Vanilla they’ll go, and not just Subaru, many companies. Seems like every day there is a new crossover announcement. I know it’s bad when one of the guys that works out at my gym....he is late 40’s, probably 6-7% body fat, works out 3 hours a day. He was all excited about his new car, a Nissan Murano.

Yeah I really thought that part was insensitive to the needs of those people. In fact it was a little over the top. Subaru should really STEP up to those customers rather than ****ting on them.

This thread is about "medium-term management". I read it as "middle management". The higher ups just want to patronize you and make you shut up.

STEP down, son.

Might be time to consider aligning with Pre.
