Default OLD 2004 Forester XT 4EAT JDM bits Sport Shift conversion OLD

Well Im on the fence about this car... I purchased this from my old brother in law about 8 months ago but he originally purchased it with around 80k from what I remember so It has been in the family for a while.

BUT yesterday I was replacing a strut and found a golf ball size rust hole in one area near the strut tower. I checked the other side and found a larger hole which bums me out. Before I either fix, or part this out, Ill throw it to the masses to see if anyone wants it.... Its a ton of fun and will give a list of detailed parts.

2004 Forester XT limited with 248,000 miles on the original transmission and body which are about the only original parts. It has the sunroof which works fine and does not leak but does have a crack from a tree branch. The motor was replaced and now has around 160,000. It was pulled from another xt which had a newer timing belt and water pump. The suspension is now on its 3rd set of oem XT struts. Most everything else has been upgraded.

REMOVED AND NO LONGER INCLUDED 2004 Sti front brembos rotors pad with 120k
REMOVED FOR SALE SEPARATELY JDM HID OEM headlights in great shape (leveling motors not hooked up)
REMOVED AND NO LONGER INCLUDED Caruso motorsports skid plate
2008 STi steering rack (might be an 06)
JDM Forester aluminum front control arms
REMOVED AND NOT LONGER INCLUDED 2014 WRX wheels with almost new nitto SN2 oversized tires
REMOVED AND NO LONGER INCLUDED JDM STi SURETRAC! rear diff 4.44
Turbo XS downpipe and HKS hi-power cat back
2014 STi Intercooler
Sport Shift conversion with a VTD center diff Baja TCM Baja shift assembly (replaced laggy MTP center diff)

The engine runs like a top, nothing wrong with it at all. The transmission is surprisingly in great shape also. I did 4 fluid changes over the course of around 4 months when i first bought it and its very responsive with the sport shift and in auto mode. Beast of a transmission, well done subaru. Upgrades on the motor include group n motor mounts, sti oil pan, pickup, and dipstick tube as the drain pan plug was cross threaded, the newer sti intercooler and thats about it.

The transmission is good and was told the clutch packs were replaced around 100k as there was a bumper to bumper warranty and something was weird at that time. No idea if thats true. I did a hardened bushing on the transmission mount also. If its cold or you reset the ECU fuel learning trims it can vibrate the car but once the engine warms or fuel trims are learned it balances out.

Body has issues but nothing that cant be fixed. I just dont know about dealing with it. I might pull the listing tomorrow but heres some details. Strut bucket rust found recently, minor rust on the under carriage, what looks to be rust stains coming from one of the plastic rocker cover panels. The windshild is currently cracked, the tailgate is from a different vehicle as is the drivers door and drivers fender, front and back bumpers have damage. The fenders have been flared with a roller and also cheap 240 fender flares have been installed. Rally armor mud flaps as well. The grill is a knockoff of the JDM foz sti grill and Im not sure of the manufacturer.

Interior has 2006 wrx front seats and the stock 2004 limited leather rear seats, sunroof works fine, upgraded front speakers, pioneer single din stereo, Nexus 7 tablet modded into a factory upper dash pod. I was trying to make a double 52mm gauge cluster but havent exactly finished but will include an tow max oil pressure gauge and AEM wideband.

Mechanically a super reliable car. All oils and fluids have been replaced. t6 oil all the time. The passenger diff seal leaks a little as I nicked it replacing a CV axle with an OEM one. New winter tires, newer front knuckles. No CV popping or odd noises.

Suspension is the stock xt, sti rear sway bar, 3/4 inch HDPE spacer, JDM front arms, I do have STI rear spherical lateral links that include which were originally pink but have been painted primer blue, along with a 2006 wrx rear subframe if wanted.

Driveshaft was replaced at some point. Also has a walboro 255, H6 rear rotors and bracket, brake booster brace.... Ill change the listing as I remember items. Ill also grab some detailed photos tomorrow.

This is not a show car and with a little body repair is an kick ass winter, dirt, offroad forester. Come check it out if your somewhat local. One cravat is a recently sold a 06 wrx and sold an access port that was powering this xt with it so Im on the hunt for a replacement. I should have that ironed out soon.

Couple of notes about the photos. I still have access to the original drivers door for the black leather door card vs grey. I originally planned to swap all for doors and might do the other 3 as a buddy has a parts forester and his are in better shape. He also has a non cracked sunroof glass. If I get the time Ill try and swap that around.

The rear bumper smoke spot is mostly a burn spot vs smoke. But the previous engine was going through alot of oil before it was swapped and did most of what you see.

The interior is very dirty. I have been using this as a work vehicle and transporting tools around. I removed the rear cargo covers and tire to have additional room. Ill spend some time and clean it and post updated photos.

I talked to a friend whos a welder and got his take on the rear strut towers. I plan to have it fixed this weekend. The holes are not in the structural part and the rusty area is essential more of a weather barrier then anything.

I hope anyone thats interested appreciates the candid nature here, albeit a little long winded. This forester is a ton of fun. I just dont really need it anymore.

I can get the price much lower if I swap out certain parts for original oem parts. For instance...

-500 If I keep the front brembos and install the stock brakes
-500 If I keep the wheels and tires and install OEM wheels and tires
-250 If I keep the HID headlights and install the OEM headlights
-300 If I keep the locking SURETRAC rear diff and install the VLSD diff
-150 If I keep the STi intercooler and install the OEM intercooler
-100 If I keep the dash pod with tablet
-100 If I keep the skid plate

The forester will come with 2 additional rear subframes if wanted. Ones from a 2006 WRX with a matching T bar and one from a 2004 XT. Also the V5 (i think) JDM spherical rear lateral links (originally cherry blossom pink). Plus a set of US XT rear lateral links and two 2006 WRX aluminum links. One of the current links on the car has a broken sway bar mount location because of running the sti rear sway bar and mild lift, so with these you can fix it or upgrade it.

MODS.....

Im going to start a partout thread but only remove items that I have OEM backups for (wheels, brembos, diff, grill, headlights) so not sure if I can keep both threads going. I will still be selling the forester as a running vehicle albeit at a lower price once items sell. If you need to close this I understand.

Price Bump $3000 but please read the new description below.....

Current setup. Realized one of the rear bearings is going out once I swapped wheels. I will include 2 additional rear hubs that have newer bearings but they are rusty from sitting in a damp garage.

I plan to swap the HID lights tomorrow with the stockers and at that point the price is $3000. Does not come with any extras like vf39, oil pressure, aem.... Currently on a stock tune and Im staying out of boost with that turbo back exhaust. Im looking for someone to swap their stock turbo back plus cash and Ill lower the price more.

ITEMS STILL INSTALLED AND INCLUDED IN SALE
JDM front aluminum arms
Turbo back exhaust
Sti steering rack
Sti intercooler
Sport shift mod
Great running drivetrain

Engine does have a catless heat wrapped uppipe installed, group N engine mounts and that newer sti oil pan and pickup.

PRICE DROP BUMP

$2800 OBO

I was wrong about the rear wheel bearing. The wheel was not torqued and was making a little noise. Lets get this sold before I remove any other parts.
