Default The timing of the announcement

I just realized why SOA waited until just now to announce this. They wanted to wait until Mitsu was in it up to their eyeballs with a commitment to a 2.0 liter turbo. Up 'til now, there have only been a few hints that a 2.5L was in the offing for the STi. And even then, the rumors were squashed pretty quickly.

My bet. They knew they couldn't afford to lose market share to Mitsu so they went forward with plans for the 2.5, figuring that if it was a pipe dream, they could always fall back on the 2.0 and hope for the best.

Obviously, if they had announced it earlier, Mitsu might have one-upped them.

Smart. Very smart. It was a corporate staring contest and Mitsu blinked.

I agree. i think subaru played this very well and came out on top in many ways. 300hp, 6sp. vs evo's 270 5sp. suby exec's are probably having a good laugh in the office. well, they're probably sleeping, but you get my point.

This has been the common opinion of both Mitsu and Subbie fans for the past year. When Mitsu annouced that they might bring the EVO over, Subaru said they would only announce the STi after Mitsu had released the EVO specs.
