Post TurboXS Electronic Engine Management for 03 WRX different than 02

I took a drive today down to Gathersburg to visit the TurboXS guys. They gave me the full walkaround their facility and were great with all of my questions.

My primary reason for the visit was to inquire about the status of the Ecutec and ask for some specific questions about the unichip and the UTEC. Here's what I got...

1. TurboXS will NOT be reflashing the factory ECU's with the Ecutec computer modeling until later this year. They are awaiting for a few mods to the software.

2. The unichip that TurboXS made in 02 is NOT compatible with the 03 WRX as a "plug and play" piggyback CPU. Subaru made several changes to the 03 CPU...they added a sensor to the fuel system and chaged the polarization of several of the inputs. You can use the unichip in the 03, however, it requires an additional wire to be spliced into the harness.

3. The UTEC currently sold by TurboXS is compatibly with both the 02 an d03 WRX models. An 02 REX can use the 02 or the 03 UTEC model, however, an 03 REX can NOT use an 02 model.

I thought I should get this information out to everyone because there are alot of TurboXS unichips and Utecs out there for sale and the 03 REX owners need to know that there are compatibility issues with the 02 vs 03 versions of the UTEC and the unichip is NOT plug and play compatible.

Yes thank you for that info. I've been wondering what changes Subaru has made to the 03 ECU. I had an 02 wagon, and vs my 03 sedan the programming (to that effect) feels smoother, has more pickup right off idle and doesnt seem to be as erratic as the 02 (it "remembers" aggressive driving a bit longer I think, all this is on 91 oct).
