Exclamation What happened at the dealership (1st gear popping out)

For those of you that didn't read an earlier post I made.... My 2001 Impreza 2.5RS had the problem of occasionally popping out of first gear going down hill with the clutch not depressed, no brakes, and off the gas. This would happen at about 1,500 or so r'spm around 10 or so mph. If you just let the clutch out at that speed it wouldn't do it....the car had to gain the speed on it's own.

So, I took the car in today. I got called back to the service dept. and was told by the mechanic that he tried 3 times and couldn't repeat it. He said, see if you can do it and I'll ride with you. On the first attempt.....nothing. The second time going down the hill it did it. He said, "that's all I needed to see". He said that on earlier models that had this problem it had to do with clearance problems...too far apart. He said it was the first time he'd seen it on a 2001.

They are going to have to order the parts which should take a couple days. They didn't even give me any crap about a rental car. There was some confusion in the service dept. as to whether I was leaving the car or not.........they went ahead and called for the rental car. But, they told me to go ahead and drive the car and they'd call me when they got the parts.

I'll be glad when it's fixed.

Might be a good idea for some of you with 2001's to do this test and make sure your tranny doesn't do it. It helps if you can let the car start rolling very slowly at the crest of a hill and let it speed up.(no gas)

I did a complete check on my tranny and clutch when I first got the car, because I was afraid of something like that. No problems on my tranny yet, but clutch is getting weird these days. Can't explain what it is.
