Post odd brake noises

I just had a set of legacy/RS front brakes installed on my 97 OBS. I purchased the parts used, and as far as I know they were in fine shape. When I got the car back from the mechanic, I had a new sound to entertain myself with. It was not consistent, but in certain situations, I can hear a cross between a clunk and a rattle. It is as if (let us say) the caliper could rotate a few degrees with the disc before catching on its mounting hardware. I know this is not it, but if you can imagine what that might soundlike from inside the car, then maybe you are still with me. The noise occurs on some bumps (without any braking) and then when I use the brakes in some situations.
I took the car back to the shop and they could not find anything and the sound was gone when I got the car again, until yesterday. It does not occur as often, but it is still there.
Anyone haveany ideas what this might be?

OHhhhhhhkayyyy take 2! I lost my 1st attempt at posting....

I had a similar sound happen to me. I had changed out my pads, rotors, lines. About 2 months afterwards I began to hear a clunking noise only braking above 45mph. I checked my caliper, found it loose. So I tighted the loose bolt but it snaps! Subaru is known to use easily breakable bolts. Still I get the clunking.
This time I bring the car into the dealer. He sez the noise was caused by a loose/unseated pad ( well they only fit one way!?!?) But he fixes it.

so the moral of the story is: 1st- check for a loose caliper & or broken caliper bolt. 2nd- check your pads.
