Rally School Questions :D
Hey I am going to the Ridgecrest Rally School, and it satisfies the qualifications for a beginner driver. Anywho me and my buddy will be using our own cars, as with most peeps there. It is a pretty tame course, but I will be in a WRX and he a RS and we were wondering about tire pressure, and what we should do about any other things with the car. I didn't think mudflaps would really be nessecary or any other type of body armor because they course isn't really rocky, he is going to put some on though. It is just packed dirt and I believe they water it down a little bit. But is there anything we should secure in our cars... you know besides ourselfs? I hear the tire should be raised in case the tire rolls over the wheel. Both tires will be stock all terrain? Any ideas( afforable for me - I am poor ) for us?
Thanx, FaTbOyRaLLy the FaTtEsT w/out the ph.

I dunno, but if the school is ANY good at all, they will help you prepare your car. They don't want it breaking halfway through the curriculum either.

I highly doubt, if it is a school, that you'll just be sitting in a car all day. I'm sure there'll be some kind of 'classroom instruction' before you get behind the wheel. Best thing to do if you're really concerned is bring an air compressor with you to the event. Get there 10 min early, and ask. 10 Min is plenty time to put air in/bleed it out. |

From two years of RallyCross experience:
Put mudflaps on the car. make sure they stick out from the body a couple inches. The generic Type C truck flaps from Autozone or other parts stores work great and are about $15 for 4. Have 45-50 lbs of air in the tires to help keep the bead from peeling off the rim. In the turns, the tire will often break the bead and bleed out air, and get debris between the tire and rim. Check the tire pressures often. We had a Subaru lose a front suspension because the tire came off and the wheel jammed into the ground on the next turn. Sounds like a blast. Have fun, though if you can use a unprepped car I would suggest taking a rental car with the full insurance for $40-50 per day. dsmith |

It is pretty smooth dirt. You may want to take some duct tape and protect a few crucial fender well areas if necessary. There will be plenty of advice available at the school.
