I don't know how true this is but my salesman told me that the Black on the STI is the same black that is on the Forrester.

He said it was black with gold specks in it so at night it looked purpleish.

So ....I did not choose black....

All Subaru blacks have been pearls. This means they have a slight color to their shine. Midnight Black Pearl of the last two years had a blue shine to it. I hear that the new Java Black Pearl has a gold tint to it instead of the blue of MBP. <01 Subarus (don't know if it still went by MBP) have more of a reddish/purple shine than the current blue.
