Default Update on STI seats?

Anyone has an update on the STi seats?
Are they still going to be the same as the seats shown in the car shows?

Thanks

Thanks

That's a bummer . . . the US STi seats dont look anywhere as supportive as the JDM seats.
I was hoping they would change it.

americans need to lose a little weight before we get good seats.

on the plus side you should have no trouble selling the seats from your STi to another wrx owner, and then you can get something that suits your taste.

Isn't the statistics says that 60%+ of Americans are overweight..
it would be smart for SOA to release with wider seats...
I probably will sell the seats for some recaros...

Not really. Are 60% of WRX owners overweight. Most Impreza RS and WRX owners I know will fit in trimmer seats comfortabley. I don't think it is really a fat issue as much as it is a sizee issue in general. The Japanese potential buyers are generally small guys. I'm guessing 125-165 lbs. Here I would assume the average buyer to be 145-200 lbs, just due to genetics.... more height and width, not necessarily extra fat.

How do the STi seats compare to those lucious Recaros in the EVO? My friend just picked up an EVO last night and the seats are amazing.

My problem is not the bottom of the seat but the width of the back and shoulder area. Many of the aftermarket seats from Japan just kill my back because they are too narrow. Perhaps this is another area addressed with the USDM vs JDM seats.

Yeah, I just bought a 2002 RS the other day, and I have to say this is the first car I've owned that makes me feel fat because of the seat width. I'm 5'9 and 175 lbs.. not what I would call huge.. but the seat width does feel really skinny.

It's not to the point where it's uncomfortable, but I certainly wouldn't complain about an extra inch or two in width.

If you're really concerned about it, order a set of JDM front seats and install them in your STi.

Dr Evyl (great name),

A better indicator of relative size to seat fit would be your waist measurment. Are you something like a 38 or 40 in jeans?

I'm 6'1 and vary between 155 & 175 depending on my training and the season. But my waist year round is a static 30 in jeans.
The 2002 & 03 WRX seats fit my arse with room to spare.

Never thought I would be mentioning my clothing sizes here, but no... I usually wear 36s, but only because they don't make 35's. 34 is too tight, 36 is a bit on the loose side.

I'm certainly not what anyone would deem as "fat".

I fit, it's just pretty snug. I'd say that weight is on the slim side for your height. Most people I know in that height range are like 170-190 lbs. Depends on your build, though.

So who wants my STi then? I'm 6'0" and 255lbs. Seeing that I'm too much of a fat pig I might as well not even try. I thought I was in trouble when I needed an engine hoist to get in and out of my RS. And why do I always have to replace only the left side struts and tires, is there an alignment issue?

??.. Really?
I sat in the EVO seats at autoshow.. disappointed... the seat
base is widened compare to the JDM EVOs... and I think... pretty
much the same compare to USDM STi seats...

It's always funny how people assume whatever seat suits them best is obviously superior.

Seats comfy for one person will make somone elses back hurt.

Seats you think look good and feel better may not feel so good after 30 minutes of hard driving.

I'm 5'10, 260 built pounds and I loved my Ver 6 seats in my old RS so I'm getting Ver 7 seats when I get a chance!

Best seats I've been in were the ones in my old car - '88 Mazda MX6 GT. Adjustable in ways you never thought were possible.
Not only could you change the height of the seat, but the angle of the front of the seat relative to the floor of the car. Not only was there full, adjustable lumbar support, but you could also change how tight the side bolsters held you!! Too bad the headrest was crappy and the material wore out a bit through the years. When I took my favorite corners at 60-80mph in those seats, I wouldn't feel my body moving anywhere, unlike I did in my RS.

I just hope that the STi seats even come close to the MX6 ones.

i'm with strangerq, seats are like suspensions. what's perfect for one person might suck for someone else.

if you get an STi and you don't like the seats then there are a lot of options. you can get the seats re-built, or replace them with something do you like.

in the end if you're basing your car choice on the seats alone...

I currently live in the state of VA where we have an "epidemic" of overweight and obese adults, who are also drivers.

For the full details as presented on April 1, 2003 by the VA Dept. of Health, Click Here!
No, was not an 'April Fools' joke as it is in fact an extremely serious community health issue.

As stated by the people that are directly in the know, 57% of VA's adults are overweight if not obese. And, these people do drive.
Further, for you non-Virginians "61 percent of U.S. adults are either overweight or obese, defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or more". For more specifics visit the following Center for Disease Control website references;
* Overweight and Obesity Overview
* Definition: Overweight and Obesity Among Adults
* Prevalence of Obesity Among U.S. Adults
* Obesity Prevalence Among US Adults by State

Conversely in Japan health issues related to being overweight are on the rise (especially amongst men 20-40 y/old) but even still those overall numbers are very low relative to the US.
Yes, we Americans are relatively longer limbed and heavier boned than the Japanese but that does not account for the alarming number of our overweight citizens as compared to non-Asian Pacific countires.

The Bottom Line: The majority of Americans actively prefer to eat more and exercise less, all the while thinkng of themselves as looking 'sporty'.

Just think of all the 'mountain bikes' sold that have never touched dirt and are collecting dust in your neighborhood garages and basements. As we are spending, spreading and growing with fat, not muscle or bone, making it increasingly difficult to comfortably sit in our vehicles (cars, busses, planes & trains) amongst other more serious health and economic related issues.
Genetics as well as medical conditions for a small minority of Americans comes into play in various obese and extremely obese cases, but in the majority it has been established that diet and exercise are the real causes.
Diet and exercise can be actively controlled and affected by the individual.
