I am buying some parts from the US, I heard that the import tax cost a lot when I use UPS/ Fedex. Is that true?

Yes, but keep in mind you could be charged with Fraud if caught. And security has been tightened and you never know who's reading this board...

It's not the "import tax" that's expensive, it's the "brokerage fee" that UPS charges.

For example, let's say you buy a $10 widget from the states. The duty on it is just 7% so you have to pay the 70-cents tax on it. UPS (or whatever shipping company) does the brokerage for you (which means takes the papers to Customs Canada who rubber stamps them) and charges you $50 for that "service". So to get your $10 widget, you must pay your 70-cents tax PLUS the $50 brokerage fee.

That's how it works folks!

You can always phone UPS with the tracking number ahead of time and notify them you will clear the item yourself. When your item arrives, you take the papers down yourself and it is less than what they charge you as "brokerage."

Widgets?? Damn you must be an econ major. Anyway, don't a lot of you guys use that mail box place in Point Roberts?? My friend had his roll bar for his 1st gen Miata shipped there and it doesn't cost that much. And I saw a lot of auto parts there too.
