Default factory alarm misbehaving

So the other day I bleep my alarm to arm it, and it only makes one chirp, instead of two. I also notice that the little red flashing light is blinking in a two-flash sequence. It doesn't seem to be arming anymore. I can arm it with the button, and see the red light flashing, and unlock/open the door manually and not get a siren, and the car starts right up. Also, even if I don't arm it, the red light flashes as soon as the car is off.

I've tried to press that little button under the steering column to see if I can reset it or whatever, and nothing changes. I've also tested the siren by pressing both buttons, and that works fine.

The only thing I can guess is that the dealer messed it up when doing the 60k service?

It kinda sounds like it was set to valet mode somehow. Do a search on that maybe. I'm not really sure how it would have gotten that way... if the battery was disconnected during your service that may have caused it (I'm not sure if that would cause it though).

Try this, there is a button that comes out of the bottom of the plastic directly under the steering colum I believe that's the vallet button. Try hitting that and see if it still does it. If that dosn't work open the door, lock it then unlock it then press the blinking button that could work too. If that dosn't work I'd take it to the dealer.

Sounds like your alarm is in valet mode. Check your Subaru owners' manual, it tells how to fix this.
