Question new wagons and hatches

After seeing this apparent onslaught of new compact wagons and hatches, such as the Toyota Matrix and Mazda Protege 5, is anyone considering getting one? I like where they are going with the looks on these 2cars, very sporty, defined lines, somewhat sporty engines, and for under $20k, not bad.
I almost dropped my rs for a wrx wagon, but the look of the wrx wagon just wasn't the clincher for me.
Is anyone else considering this too?

From some sources, these couple years the trend will go to wagon and sport car. That's why quite a number of wagon coming out.

And yes, I'm following the trend, I traded the RS to a TS wagon. No WRX? $$ wise!

You're right. There sure seem to be a lot of hatches or hatch-wagons on the way. And I for one am glad to see it. I wonder whether manufacturers are thinking of folks possibly getting out of sport-utes and returning to the car market. Folks who are maybe tired of the trucky ride, poor gas mileage, etc., but who appreciated the "utility" aspects of those vehicles. Nothing beats a hatch or wagon for utility. And some manufacturers never gave on the hatches in the first place. I've owned a couple of VW Golfs and a Saab 900 Turbo, just as an example.

It's great to see more choices on the way, in all price ranges. I'm on the fence at the moment thinking about what my next car will be. But I know it will be a hatch or wagon. I'm all over the map. WRX Wagon, maybe an OBS Wagon, VW GTI (VR6 or 1.8T), Jetta Wagon, Mazda P5, a Saab 9-3 (great incentives at the moment), Audi A4 Avant. Good God, the list goes on and on.

Tough decisions, but fun.

I want one too except I can't own more than one car at this point. Mazda and Toyota are missing one important component, AWD. I need AWD.

I always thought about buying and modifying an Outback Wagon. It will be so cool. I also thought about modifying a minivan just like the A-Team.

I have just one question...What is either of those two choices going to be worth in 2-3 years? Better yet, are you going to want to own it beyond that?
The answer is that WRX is a KEEPER. If you can't swing the payments, and want the STi when it gets here, lease like I did.

tmat3, I have heard that the sister car to the Toyota Matrix, the Pontiac Vibe will have awd and a possible source for the system may be Subaru. GM owns at least 30% of Subaru. I know that one of Chevys concept cars last year used a Subaru drivetrain.

Actually, the Matrix/Vibe wont have the AWD with the 180hp engine OR with the manual tranny

Im gonna go check out the Protege 5 ASAP, but I think ill take the TS wagon over it though (35 more hp + torque, AWD)

Most Americans don't value hatchbacks.

About bloody time "we" started catchin' on.
