Default Problems with JDM

ok i may have secured a small batch of 3 or 4 JDM front Clips , V3/4 however im uncertain if ill have em ordered or not , my concern is evryone is worried about replacment parts, and gas, wouldnt the parts be interchangeable with other models ? and gas , i hear Japan runs 95 octane, so will it matter that i personally only have 93 octane around here, ?

Parts are parts. The big difference between the JDM engines and the USDM EJ20s are just the size of the turbos and the state of tune for the ECU (except for STi motors which have forged pistons, different cams, etc.). What parts are your people worried about replacing? Pistons? Who cares if you can source an OEM replacemtent, if you crack a piston replace them with aftermarket ones. Clutches? Again, aftermarket clutches for the USDM EJ20 will work. I really don't see any need for concern about getting replacement parts.

As far as fuel goes, Japan uses 98 and 100 RON fuel. IIRC, 100 RON comes out to about 94 or 95 octane. I have used everything from 94 to 92 octane in my STi Ver. 3 with no noticeable difference. Although, I try to avoid using 92 whenever possible.

Parts like hoses, sensors, etc might have to come from Japan, but there probably are a lot of parts that are interchangable between the GC and GD motors to JDM motors. I don't think anyone has sat down and compared the parts manuals between both markets and all years to see what's interchangable; that is the missing link. For instance I need a need timing cover for my DOHC Ver2 motor I would imagine a timing cover from a DOHC 98RS would work, but I won't know until I try it. Rallispec ,from what I've been told, can source oem jdm parts.

Peep is correct about the fuel too.

from my expirance alot of parts are "simmilar"
not exactly the same .. like power steering backets .. look similar but the us pump won't fit in a jdm bracket ... however a us bracket will fit on a jdm motor
