Default Test and Tune and Introduction to Solo II - Sunday Aug. 3

The Philly Region of the SCCA will be having a Test & Tune and an Introduction to Solo II on Sunday Aug. 3 at Northampton Community College (NCC.) We will also be holding a class on the basics of How to Tune your Car for Autocross. I recommend that you arrive by 8 AM if you want to take advantage of the sessions. If you would like to help set up, get there at 7:30.

We will set up a short course that contains some typical autocross elements that are also used for tuning such as a 125ft skidpad and a 65ft slalom. One run will cost $3, 4 runs can be purchased for $10. Driverís meeting should be 9:30 AM. We will run rain or shine. We will have instructors there if you want to work on your driving techniques.

The Introduction to Solo II will be a hands-on seminar put on by Kelley Nelson starting at 9 AM. He will walk you through the steps to prepare for a typical autocross and explain some of the techniques that you use while you are on course. There will also be instructors available the entire day to ride with you and help you learn how to autocross. If you know someone who would like to try Solo II but they are a little nervous about it, this would be a great opportunity to introduce them to the sport gently without the time pressures and competition aspects of a regular event.

The How to Tune your Car for Autocross class is geared towards those with 6 months to 2 years of autocross experience. We will meet sometime between 10 and 11 AM to give you a chance to get some baseline runs before the class. The class will last about an hour, then we will turn you loose on the course to see the effects of the changes we discussed. Please read, print out and memorize the following documents before you get to the event so your time there can be productive.
Alex Tziortzis tuning dial-in doc:
My tire doc:
http://www.awdriven.net/autoX-tire-pressures.htm (I will be bringing the illustrations to the T&T)
I will be available throughout the day to offer tuning advice, but my experience is not extensive.

You do not have to sign up for any of these, just show up and listen for the announcements. We should be able to accommodate everyone who wants to come.

If you are experienced and you just want to just test your car, you may show up at any time. We cannot say what time we will finish, so do so at your own risk. We finished by 2 PM at the last Test & Tune. You will need to get your car teched and the waiver signed before you can run.

Directions to the college are found here. http://www.autox4u.com/direct.htm There is a map at http://www.northampton.edu/welcome/pop_map.htm We will be using the Gates Center parking lot.

Donít hesitate to ask if you have any questions about the event.

Just so you know, you don't have to take any of the classes that are offered. You can just come and run for fun if you want.

Would you let me know if you are coming so I can make sure we have enough helpers.
