Default Att: All JDM EJ20 owners - need info for closed deck theory.

I have seen this quite a few times on Scoobynet and wanted to get some opinions on this, and this forum seems to have the most Subaru knowledge.

It is said that closed deck EJ's have hatched markings on the block near the crank postion sensor. I have looked on both of my EJ25 blocks and they don't have it, my EJ20G has them. Here is a pic of another EJ20G, it's not mine so don't tell me to clean it. Some EJ's have the hatching on the heads but the hatching should be on the block of closed decks.

I have been told by Mike Sheilds, Trey Cobb, and David Wallis that all EJ20G's made before 10/94 are closed deck. After 10/94 only the WRX-RA and WRX STi's were closed deck until 9/96.

Can anyone with a JDM EJ20 check around the sensors on the block and see if they have hatching and what year and type motor you have.

If this has already been covered then just me.

Here's the pic

Default asked ron?

have you tossed a mail out to ron williams at axis power racing? i know for a fact that they built up a closed deck stroker turbo block in the past. not sure if the block came from an ej20g or ej22T. he may recall what the block looked like.

Had my close deck block built from James Liard in Oz. Not sure what year the block is from, but it does not have those hatch marks.

I'll check my block in the morning, and let you know. FYI, it's from a 1995 JDM WRX sedan, 260hp version.
