Thumbs up Thunderhill Street School Was Awesome!

I can't believe how fun it was.

The event was well organized and well executed. All of the instructors I rode with were extremely helpful.

It was a little intimidating at first, especially with all the fast cars that were there...Corvettes, a couple of Carrera 4's, 4 NSX's, TWO Audi S4's, one Honda Si, and lots of BMW's. I was the only GT wagon there, and the only other Subaru was a 2000 RS sedan.

However, they stressed that it was not a race. Passing was only allowed on the straight section, so having a powerful car isn't all that important.

By the third track session, I was getting comfortable with the speed, and the instructor was pushing me to get more speed out of the turns. This is a great way to find out what your limits are and what the car's limits are.

Five sessions were scheduled, but we ended up doing six. For the final two sessions, they opened up the entire 3 mile track. That was just too awesome. I haven't had such an adrenaline rush since the my MTB racing days.

At the end of the day, the instructors were allowed to get some track time in for themselves. To end a great day, one of the instructors offered me a ride in his Viper. There is no experience like riding in a 500+ hp monster on the track driven by an experienced racer. He showed me what driving was all about. I just about wet my pants by the end of the session.

I can't wait for the upcoming Subaru track day. I need reinforcement before I forget everything I learned.

BTW, the driver of the RS sedan had a video camera mounted under his rear bumper. He said he lurks here on this site, so I asked him to post the link to the video.
