Default Has Anyone Here Gotten the STi ECU Reflash?

I'm the proud new owner of a black/gold STi. The car is awesome in every way except that it pings . Has anyone here brought their STi in for a reflash? If so, where did you have it done, did it cure the pinging, and did it have any side-effects?

I got mine done about a month ago. I dropped it off on a Monday and got it back on a Thursday. I got it done at Carter Subaru the same place I bought it from. Got a boring Legacy loaner with no gas in it so I just parked it on the street until the STi was ready. It did cure the pinging although I thought I heard it the other day. There are no noticeable side effects but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a loss. I am happy that I got it done before any additional damage could be done. Plus I will be going to a lapping day this weekend. (insert banana man here)

I'm holding out on the reflash.

I've only heard pinging once and now believe that if you drive the car hard, it'll be less likely to ping.

Shiv put up a nice theory about this in Factory Forced Induction.

He basically says that the ECU incorrectly advances timing when it doesn't hear knock... even during mild driving. So then when you get on it, it's far too advanced and pings.

I drive pretty aggressively all the time. I like the feel of G's, both acceleration and turning. So by Shiv's theory, my energetic driving may be keeping the incorrect advance from happening (since pushing it hard keeps timing dialed back when the ECU hears slight knock).

Both ABCDriver and I had the reflash done at Chaplins (see Nikki) and we are both happy. No ping and car seems smoother and faster after the first day.
