Post Roof rack question for those Impreza OBS owners

I have been looking at different systems for skis/snowboards/cargo bins that work with the factory installed rack. The best attachments that I have come across so far are the Yakima Mighty Mounts. Will these mounts hold a bike, skis and/or cargo bin securely on the factory rack? Will the factory rack stay on my car when driving at 70 mph with all this stuff on? Of course, I would not put more than the recommended 100 pounds on. I just would hate to have to buy another rack (Yakima/Thule full rack) when there is already a rack on my car!

Thanks in advance for any input.

You might want to try the Yahoo! Subaru Impreza Outback Sport Club, they have some info about OBS roof racks I believe.

I have a 00' OBS and i love it. I go mtbing 3 times a week in the summer and skiing almost everyday in the winter. Plus i like to push the car. This included 100+ mpg on the turnpike with a $3000 bike on the roof. Winter time there is a Yahkima Powder hound that carries 6 ski and maybe some poles and summer i have 3 upright carriers all using the mighty mounts!! Never had a problem! Just dont pull into the garage with the bikes on the roof, its more expensive then you think, bikes, yakima rack, subaru supports, fender dents, garage door problems, etc, not like this has ever happened to me

Thumbs up

I have the factory rack on my wagon and I have the Yakima Lockjaw bike rack. It is mounted "backwards" on my rack, but the advange is no noticable increase in windnoise! http://www.yakima.com/products/dynamic/8002037_1.html

I would go with the Yakima accessories on your factory rack using the Mighty Mounts. If you should outgrow the factory rack, goto the Thule system factory rack feet. These feet mount to the factory rack rails and allow the use of the Thule load bars, then transfer the Yakima accessories to the Thule load bars. http://www.thuleracks.com/tracker.html
