Post New Age Impreza takes 1st scalp

...thought you'd like the title.

I made my first new Impreza sighting on Australian roads today. I'd seen a few parked and at dealers, but not on the street. This one - a titanium-ish silver - was waiting at a set of lights next to a '94 or '95 M3 (Oz has the "Euro" version with 286 bhp) at a big junction in Pyrmont. BMW to the right, Imp to the left. Both drivers wanted to go straight ahead, so the BMW driver took off in a flurry of revs but the Impreza just jumped off the line and shot across the junction. I heard the BMW's tired-sounding motor go up beyond 6,000 rpm and into the 7s (the Impreza was very quiet - I couldn't really hear it above the traffic). Given the screaming noise I'm sure the BMW hit almost eight, and the engine cut off with a HUGE bang (d'oh). The car was also blowing a little smoke - one too many bounces off the rev limiter I fear, and at 8,000 rpm he's just asking for a snapped crank.

Dim driver, couldn't drive stick, knackered engine, better luck next time. Score 1 to the Impreza if you like .
