Post Loose rear wing

Has anyone else had the same problem that I have? The rear "wing" on my MY01 RS Sedan is constantly becoming loose and begins to rattle. The trunk latch in the trunk lid is also contatntly coming loose. Any suggestions?

Pshaw! I've had this problem and solved it by getting a trunk lid w/o a wing!!

Actually, I do now have a trunk lid w/o a wing, but before I did that, I had to try to fix the wiggling wing thing.

There are FOUR nuts, 8mm, that hold the wing onto the trunk lid. As well as TWO plastic fasteners that pop into holders in the trunk. Two of the bolts are hidden under the black rubber bumpstops. Remove the bumpstops by twisting and pulling them off. remove all four nuts from under the trunk lid. Next, unplug the 3rd tail light by lifting the tab and pulling the plug that runs on the trunk support on the drivers side. Next close the trunk and simply pull the lid straight up. Be CAREFUL not to scratch the trunk lid with the bolts on the bottom of the wing.

What you will need at this point is a tube of silione weather stripping. You will use this gooey stuff to make a new gasket for your wing. Apply the stuff directly to the bottom of the wing about 1/2 inch from the sides and a little more than 1/4 inch in height. Allow the silione to set and then put the wing back ont the car. Tighten down the nuts carefully as they can only take about 8 lbs of force before they snap. Any silicone ooz that comes up from under the wing can be removed LATER with a soft _plastic_ knife. Put the bumpstops back on and wait for the silicone to cure. This time varies depending on temperature and humidity.

I can safely say that silicone does NOT cure well when the weather is 15-30 degrees, as I drove around like this for 2 days before giving up and putting the wing and trunklid together in the house. Two WEEKS later, I checked the wing and it was solidly afixed to the trunk lid.
