Question Raced by an Outback

I don't know what motivated this guy in an Outback to take on my MY00 RS, but he did with gusto. He got badly smoked. My only "power" mod. is an aftermarket intake.
I didn't really think the RS was that much faster than the Outback. Anybody else put an RS head to head with an Outback?

For almost 1000 lbs more, OB will lose for sure. Even the upcoming H-6 OB probably can not take up on a 2.5RS given the power/weight ratio.

I have a '96 Outback (wife's) and a 00 RS. The speed difference is like NIGHT and DAY. I can't believe how much quicker the RS is in all respects. Hers is automatic, which may account for the 5 to sometimes 10 mpg difference in MPG too. We like the Outback, but I LOVE the RS! I only hope the RS is as reliable as the O/B has been. Almost zero probs in 55,000 miles and 4 1/2 yrs.

Hey ChaosThom,

You'd feel like a dumb@$$ if he did beat you, huh. Luckily, it wasn't Kevin Thomas, Sabrelion, or WaC you went up against.

Maybe he just wanted to see how fast your RS was. Maybe he wants one.

actually the new outbacks that have the 3.0 H-6 arent that fast, combine the weight and the fact that they only are available with automatic trannys.
autoweek rated 0 to 60 at 8.5 seconds. if u were on the freeway however, it would have a good chance at taking u down.

I dunno...I kept up with Brad's (dunno his name here) MY01 2.5 RS with my MY98 2.2 Outback Sport. Only mods are an intake and sway bar. He was WOT, I was WOT and he beat me by about two carlengths at 95 MPH.

Trunkmonkey is here! There is no cone...

I think he was talking about a fullsized Outback based on the Legacy, not an Impreza Outback Sport.
