Off Topic - Forester Question
Does anyone know if there is a front license plate bracket for the 1998 Forester (with the optional brush bar)? We live in CT, and they are getting very strict about having a front marker plate. Unfortunately, the two screws on the brush bar are frozen into the plastic inserts, and the inserts are spinning in the ABS plastc when I try to remove them. I notice 2 tapped holes on either side of the license plate screws, and I am wondering if they are there for some type of bracket or license plate mount. I've tried searching online for Subaru parts, but no site mentions a license plate mount or bracket, so I don't even know if one exists.
Thanks in advance.

You might get a better response in the Forrester forum. Sorry I couldn't help.

Those are likely for the japanese size plate.

Thanks for the help; I didn't realize there was a separate Forester forum.. I obviously should have scrolled further!

really? I live in CT and I have a 98 Forester.. To tell you the truth I like the way the front plate looks on the car without that bracket to hold the plate on the car.

I would like how it looked without a license plate bracket, too. The problem was that the screws were frozen in the bronze inserts that are molded into the brush guard and when I tried to unscrew them, the inserts broke free of the plastic and left two gaping holes in the guard.
I finally just bought a cheap $3.99 universal mount at Wal-Mart and fastened it to the brush guard with sheet metal screws (stainless). I have been looking for other Foresters with brush guards to see if there was an alternative. I saw one with the same problem as mine, and the owner had drilled new holes in the license plate and used the two inserts with the greater spacing. Regards |

I have the front plate adapter for mine that I don't need. I can take a pic of it and send it to you. You may be able to make it work somehow it's for the SG but who knows. e-mail me direct [email protected]
