Post Houston Rallycross

I have a friend that wantst o go to Houston for their next Rallycross (Oct15).

I am reading about it on the Houston SCCA and National SCCA pages. I have not been in an autoX in years and never even SEEN a rallycross (other than WRC on TV).

Anyone from the Houston or other area have any advice for a newbie ? Things to bring, recommended reading, ect.. ?

Hey Matt! I've never entered the local rallycross events, but I have watched and read about them.

You'll need to bump your tire pressure up quite a bit to ensure better handling and to help the tires stay on the car! How is your car set up? Any suspension work?

Also, here's a list of supplies you may want to get.

Bug spray - mosquitos almost carried us off during this weekend's autocross!

Sunblock - Duh

Umbrella - Even if the forecast is good, the weather can be freaky! And, it's usually windy down there. Must be a coastal thing...

Cooler - pack plenty of water, maybe some fruit, sandwiches, etc. There is a Whataburger just off I-45, but it's a few miles from the track.

Chairs - better than sitting on the ground or, horrors!, your fender.

Shoe polish - may need to mark #s on windows. Number plaques are usually supplied, but not for the different classes.

Hats - keep that sun off your head.

Dress appropriately - bring an extra shirt, shorts, etc. It may be cool the night before and faily hot later in the day.

Air tank - not necessary, but nice in case the compressor doesn't show up.

Tire gauge

Helmet - if you've got it. Loaners available.

I can't think of anything else. My personal list for autocrossing is pretty big, so I may have missed some things. Everyone tells me I pack WAY too much stuff for a few hours of racing. But, I'd rather be prepared than wishing I'd brought something I needed.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it down, but I'll see what I can do. Later!

Great !

Thanks much. I didnt even think of chairs. Guess my girlfriend will appreciate that one.

I can't wait. I get to use my old 4point harness again (I have been looking for an excuse to put it in the RS).
