Default What are these wires in the console of my '97 Legacy?

I had my console panels up for a cleaning, and I found wires with blue and white connetors beneath the parking brake handle. What are those for?
The link below has a photo. As you can see there is nothing currently connected to these things.
My car is all stock, with the factory radio and speakers. Are these extra connectors for more speakers, or a subwoofer? Or something else?

Yep, that'd be my guess too. My wife had an Outback, and that's where the seat switches were located.

Seat heaters??
I don't have seat heaters. My car is a 1997 Legacy GT with cloth seats. Outbacks with the $400 cold weather package had seat heaters in the late 1990's, but it was NOT an option on Legacy GT's in '97.
Could it be that there are seat heaters in the seats, but no switches for the heaters?

So, I'm still looking for a definitive answer on what that wiring is for.

Yeah, my '98 definitely does not have those wires in that location. If it wasn't even an option for your model, I'm not sure why the wiring would be there. My wife's '96 Outback had heated cloth seats, so apparently it doesn't have to be leather to get that.

But it was an option for some '97 Legacy models, inlcuding the OB wagon. My sister's 1997 OB wagon has the heated cloth seats, my '97 GT has unheated leather.

So, the wiring is there because the cars all share the same basic build components, even if certain options are left out during final assembly/optional equipment setup/dealer prep/etc.

Yes.

And it was an option on 97 GT's, but only as the cold weather package added to the Limited.

It's definitely the seat heaters.

I have a similar wiring situation in my dash molding. I took it out and on the right side of the molding around the gauge pod there is a push-in button for my window defroster and an empty slot with a plug and there is a wire harness that plugs into that, and i've never had it serve a purpose does anyone have an idea?

Wouldn't be cruise control or fog lights. My best guess would be heated seats.

If it's to the right of your defroster then it very well is probably for cruise control as that's where it goes. Fog lights go on the other side of the steering wheel
ie like this
Security/Alarm(iirc) : Fog lights ---- Defroster : CC

I hooked up a Limited side mirror switch which had the mirror defroster swtich too and my 98 L powered up side mirror defroster switch, just need some heated mirrors to see if they hook up as easy. Also, L's are wired for the stock tweeters. Nice upgrade.

(assuming you respond to pilfflip)

Heated seat switchs are by the E-brake.

My guess would be for the optional security system.

IIRC the alarm control module is hidden in the center console behind the E-Brake.

Default Wires

Those wires are definitely for the heated seat switchs, somebody else posted here that when they went to install aftermarket seat heaters when they took the covers off the seats to install them they found factory heaters already there they just were not wired.

Yes.

Negative, the security system gets ziptied in under the dash by your right knee, with a starter kill inline switch and a couple of vampire taps.
