Post WRX top speed gorverned ?

I saw the WRX today at the auto show. With the original tires, the top speed limit probably has to be ... 112mph !! Anyone know the top speed of the US 2002 WRX?

I don't think the speed limiter is really anything to worry about. I'm sure that numerous companies are going to come out with ECU upgrades that get rid of it soon enough. And with the rumored SOA chip, maybe they'll have an option to remove the limiter if you have Z-rated tires. Besides, when are you ever gonna go more than 130?

Without any electronic limiters, the sedan can hit 143 & the wagon 140.

I got the same thing from the SOA rep when I was out there..

alteast it's not drag limited like the RS's

Ridinlow, thats for the UK WRX right. The US has more HP so it should have a higher top speed, assuming its drag limited, not gear limited.

Need you even to ask WHY?
Just because. It is nice to know that if you are able to go top speed that you could. Not that for most of us that would not happen. BUT just incase you could.
Just my $.02

Our spec WRX's are not speed limited, but the 2 & 4 door Sti's were limit to 180km/h.

I hope yours aren't going to be. What if you want to do some track work, etc? Do they speed limit US built sports cars? If not, why impose it on imported cars? What about Porsche's, Lamo's, Ferrari's etc? Surely not!!

If the truth is known, it's probably due to lobbying from your car makers who don't want their V8 tanks to be embarrased by little Jap upstarts that are in the same price bracket or less. :P

Eby, yeah, you're right, those are UK-spec car figures.
