Have a Nice Day? Pikes Peak Hill Climb Results- Impreza 22B DNF'D

Well, I just heard the news just now on the radio here in Colorado. David Donner, 22B driver, DNF'd. They are saying it was a mechanical problem, and wouldn't elaborate beyond that. I don't know how the other Subaru drivers did, but it will be interesting to see. Rhys Millen won his class in a Mitsu Lancer Evo 6.5 RS, while his dad Rod, DNF'd in his Toyota Tacoma Truck. Nothing I know beyond this, maybe some of my friends who went will post some more. The webpage address for the PPIHC is:

It was some kind of oil pump valve failure and a spring went into the timing belt to throw off timing. This is the best as I could tell as I watched them tear the engine down after it made it back to the pits.

Seems they'd never seen this one before...

I saw that the Rhys was listed as driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer. But someone help me out here-- does this car not look like a Skyline?

Caption says, "Rhys Millen won High Performance Showroom Stock in record time"

Must be last year's pic, the press release seems pretty definitive referring to EVO; Rhys was 40 - 50 secs faster than second place in class!
And, they don't seem to have many photos up yet of this year's race day.....notice he beat Jeff Zwart's Porsche, too!!
Cool results: Per Eklund, 99 Euro Rallycross champ & long time rallyist won in a SAAB Viggen, John Wells, builder of all the Wells Coyotes that always run there won his class!

That SAAB Vigen beat Ryse Millen's record that was set in the Skyline.

As for the other Subarus, I don't think a single other one ran. There was 2 more listed in the program, but one didn't show for qualifying.

When I was waiting at the base of the mountain before they let us up in the morning just after 3:00 am I saw them let up a 2.5RS that was white and mashed up a little on the back driver's side panel. It looked like a racer, but who was it? I never saw it run.

By the sounds of what you say about the oil pump and spring, it sounds like the oil presuure reg valve came loose.

Its basically a spring loaded valve that has a screw in cap/bolt holding the spring in (pressurising it).

The cap/bolt must have come lose... allowing the spring out.... which equals zero oil pressure.

Also if the timing went.. what happened to the valves ?

The cap/bolt should be glued/sealed/lock wired in place. Like you would do for all other bolts on a rally car.

This is Theodores old car.

It was rebuilt by Autosportif.
Auto sportif prepared Nicki Grists car with a Motec.

Along came Bob Rawle at my suggestion and used a link and "beat the Motec" "Guess what"?

Nicki Grist has kept and is delighted with his link and David Lapworth is due to have his car done as well.

I was never a fan of AutoSportif as I felt they let down Theodore and in the end he gave up on the car. God I know how he feels!

My car 22B EGO is in the hands of Prodrive's WRC engine builder and is at last making progress!

Snowboard, Mountain Bike, Motocross racer Shawn Palmer won luxury car class. I guess he used one of his 70's vintage Caddies.

The car that Rhys drove last year was also an R33-GTR Vspec (??) like what is seen here.

Man, Palmer is such a ripper. I wouldn't have even had to guess if you asked me what kind of car he was driving....

I saw the WRX that they drove over a 100 foot drop - it looked pretty bad...

HA! Palmer actually drove a 2000 STS Caddie. There were 3 of them, he was number 88. He did win, and I'm sure his head went from big to huge when he got to the top. I'll bet he thinks that he's the next Rod Millen by now. It's funny that he claims to be such a MotoX Racer as well...I guess qualifying in a round that was only for Mtn Bikers makes you as good as J. McGrath eh?

All bitching aside, Palmer is an excellent athlete, and great at marketing himself...it's just a shame he has to be such a cocky prick.

that damn gen x kid
