I Have owned both cars, I Rallyed for years in Subaru RX 3-door turbo, best parts you can get are off a 4 door 85 RX, its not that fast but will take one hell of a beating I only had 2 DNF's. but the car is not very competive in any class open or PGT. 323 GTX is faster with 1.6 Turbo but can run well in PGT but gear box's are junk !!!!! just ask some people that have rallyed them, and parts are geting hard to find and thay are not that common. I would go with a VW GOLF, 1.8 for a fist rally car, fast a lot of very good parts, cheap to maintain, good resale,a good car to make repairs to if you have a high speed off !!!!!!!!

the best information I can give is exactly what I'm going through right now.

I'm in your position. I want to rally someday. I just crewed for a guy who ran the LSPR in Houghton, MI. His advice was:

a: if you've never driven in a performace competition before, don't start with rallying.
b: a well driven 2WD car in P class is MORE than enough for a novice to handle. 2WD helps you refine your skill and is not as forgiving to mistakes in smoothness on course. (I'm not talking about hitting trees or crashing into things, just learning your car.)

The instructors at the schools he went to HIGHLY recommended 2WD as a starting point.

After everything is bought, it still costs 10 grand a season to rally. And that's without wrecking a car badly.

I'm not saying this is what you should or should not do, It's what I've learned so far.

I've only BEEN to one rally, so I don't proclaim what I've said above to be law. I will continue to crew for Brian, until I learn enough about it to go off on my own.

Get used to long days...I did 22hrs Friday-saturday at the LSPR.
